Teradata is the database especially made for Data warehousing. With MPP architecture for Quick load
and fast query results. Teradata is mostly used by Fortune 500 Companies due to its high Cost.
The MPP architecture patented technology which Teradata brings with its AMP nodes (as explained
below) gives it optimum amount of parallelism. Teradata AMP configuration requires highly specialized
Engineers coming directly from Teradata. This parallelism and Configuration as well infrastructure
requirements makes it high cost technology to acquire for any medium size vendors.
Although Teradata is also used to OLTP but its most optimum well before Oracle 10g came with Grids
and RAC real application clusters amounting load balancing of query processing loads among multiple
nodes as well parallelism.
Teradata Utilizes program driven ETL tools. The Extract-Fetch-Load and processing cycle is all maintained
by program driven ETL utilizes. As Explained below:
SQL standards used by Teradata : SQL ’92 , SQL’99 , SQL 2003.
The latest is SQL-2008 many organizations and products are still maintain SQL 2003 standards.

Most of SQL syntax for Teradata is written since long back in ANSI format leading to high interoperability
across databases.
Like in Oracle we have (+) proprietary symbol for left or right outer join But This is not portable to let us
say SQL Server or Informix( As they do not have this syntax).
Using ANSI syntax like <table A> left outer join <table B> on A.key = B.key
instead as in Oracle select * from <table A>(+) join <table B> PROPERITORY SYNTAX.
Using ANSI syntax is One of The Important BEST PRACTISES for code interoperability.
