• At the end of the session B.S.C 3rd year
students will be able to explain about
“Pseudomensturation”
4. Specific Objectives
• At the end of the session B.S.C. 3rd year
students will be able to:
- define pseudomensturation
- state the cause of pseudomensturation
- state the treatment of pseudomensturation
5. Pseudo-Mensturation
• A blood stained vaginal discharge,
occasionally seen to girl babies are known as
pseudo mensturation.
• The menstural like bleeding occurs in ¼ of the
female babies after 3-5 days of birth.
7. Management
• Treatment does not require in this condition and
it disappears within 1 week after birth.
• Reassure the mother that this is normal
physiology.
• Advice to clean genitalia with wet clean cotton
cloth or cotton swabs.
8. Contd..
• Advice the mother and family to return for
care if signs and symptoms are worsen.
• If bleeding seems excessive, rule out the cause
as it may due to vitamin k deficiency or other
coagulopathy disorder.
