INTRODUCTION
PEDIATRICS DISEASES: This is the branch of
medicine that involves the medical care
of infants, children. And the person who
specialized in the area is called
PEDIATRICIAN.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF PEDIATRICS DISEASES
OBJECTIVES
• To provide skillful, intelligent,
need-based comprehensive care
to the children in health and
sickness
• To interpret the basic need of
the children to their parents and
family members and to guide
them in childcare.
AIM
• To reduce infant and child rate of
deaths and control the spread of
infectious diseases.

Tonsillitis
• Two lumps of lymph tissue in
the throat, part of the immune
system
• Inflammation causes sore
throat, difficulty swallowing
• Can be acute, recurrent,
chronic, Peritonsillar abscess.
• Surgical removal if
indicated
• Pain management
• Post operation
complications: bleeding
• No red ice popsicle

Chicken Pox
This is highly
contagious viral
infection causing an
itchy, blister-like rash
on the skin.
How it spread
• By Saliva
• By touching a
contaminated surface
• By Skin to Skin contact
Diphtheria
This is a serious infection of
the nose and throat that’s
easily preventable by a
vaccine
How it Spread
• By airborne respiratory
droplets
• By saliva

Measles
This is viral infection that’s serious
for small children but is easily
preventable by a vaccine.
How it Spread
• By Saliva
• By touching a contaminated surface
• By Skin to Skin contact

Parotitis
This is the swelling of one or both parotid glands.
How it Spreads
•By contact with fluids from the mouth, nose and
throat.
Mononucleosis
An infection with the Epstein-
Barr virus. Which transmitted
with Saliva.
• It can be spread through
Saliva.

Pediculosis: head lice
This is wingless insects that spread
their entire lives on the human scalp
and feeding exclusively on human
body.
It spread by Skin to Skin contact.
Scabies: mite rash
This is a contagious,
intensively itchy skin condition
caused by a tiny, burrowing
mite.
It spread by Skin to Skin
contact.

Impetigo
This is highly contagious skin infection that causes red sores
on the face. This normally spread by Skin to Skin Contact.

Infectious Diseases Symptoms
Signs
•A high temperature, but cold
feet and hands
•A high temperature that
doesn’t come down with
paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Symptoms
Diarrhea
Fever
Rashes
Cough
Stomachache
Teeth Pain
Constipation

Emergency signs include:
•severe respiratory distress
•signs of shock (cold hands, capillary refill time
longer than 3 s, high heart rate with weak pulse,
and low or immeasurable blood pressure)
•coma (or seriously reduced level of
consciousness)
•signs of severe dehydration in a child with
diarrhoea (lethargy, sunken eyes, very slow
return after pinching the skin or any two of
these).

CONCLUSION
The health of children is a product of complex, dynamic
processes produced by the interaction of external influences,
such as social and physical environment and their genes and
behaviors. Because children are rapidly changing and
development in response to these interaction.

RECOMMENDATION
• Measure and monitor important trends in
children’s health and influence
• Provide a surveillance and early warning capacity
for the detection of significant changes in health.
• Provide indicator of the performance of the
personal medical care system.
• Improve understanding of the mechanism of
children’s development and guide evaluations of
how changes in behaviors.
