2. “And your Lord has commanded that you
shall not serve (any) but Him, and that you
shall show goodness to your parents. If
either or both of them reach old age with
you, say not to them (so much as) “Ugh”
nor chide them, and speak to them a
generous word.”
3. Hadiths
• There are many Hadiths, sayings of
Prophet Muhammad SAW where he
told us how to treat our parents.
One of them :
Prophet Muhammad SAW said :
“One who pleases his parents has
verily pleased Allah , and one who
has angered his parents have
verily angered Allah.”
4. Disobedience is a major sin
• Hazrat Anas narrated from Prophet
Muhammad about the major sins.
He (Mohammed) observed:
Associating anyone with God,
disobedience to parents, killing a
person and lying. (Muslim)
5. One of the best deeds…
• I asked the Prophet "Which deed is
the dearest to God?" He replied, "To
offer the prayers at their early
stated fixed times." I asked, "What is
the next (in goodness)?" He replied,
"To be good and dutiful to your
parents"...(Bukhari)
6. Keys to Paradise (Jannah)
• “Let him be humbled into dust; let him
be humbled into dust. He who sees
either of his parents during their old
age or he sees both of them, but he
does not enter Paradise (because
he has been undutiful to them).
(Muslim)
7. After a parent dies
• A man came to Him and said:
Muhammad is there any kindness left
that I can do to my parents after their
death? He replied: Yes, you can pray
for them, ask for forgiveness for them,
carry out their final instructions after their
death, join ties of relationship which are
dependent on them, and honour their
friends. (Abu Dawood)
8. A mother is so important…
• A man came to the Prophet and
asked him for permission to join a
military expedition. The Prophet
asked him if he had a mother, and
when he replied that he had, he said,
"Stay with her, for Paradise is at
her feet." (Ahmad)
9. A father is so important…
• The father works hard to provide for
their physical, educational and
spiritual needs.
• If someone does something nice for
us we need to say thank you.
• Thank your parents everyday!
10. Parents rights
They have the right to:
1) Be respected and obeyed
2) To be looked after
3) To be helped
4) Kind words and good behavior
5) To be helped Financially
6) Of Inheritance
7) To Scold and sometimes Beat their
Children
8) After Death
11. Right to be respected/obeyed
Parents want the best for their
children. They keep us safe even
when we may not know it.
It is our job to listen to our parents.
Listening to our parents makes Allah
happy with us.
12. Right to be looked after
Parents take care of their children
for many years. They feed them,
give them love and a place to live.
When our parents get older it is our
job to help take care of them just as
they took care of us.
13. Right to be helped
It is a Muslim’s job to help his
parents.
We should help even without being
asked.
There are many ways we can help.
14. Right to kind words
The Quran says..
…you shall show goodness to your
parents. If either or both of them reach
old age with you, say not to them “Ugh”
nor chide them, and speak to them a
generous word.” Quran 17:23
15. Right to good behavior
After Allah, we must listen and obey
our parents. This means having the
best manners with them.
Listening, saying kind words, doing
good deeds, being thoughtful,
praying for them…
16. Right to be helped Financially
As parents grow old their energies also
decline.
Treating one's parents with honour also
requires sustaining them with the living
costs when they are needy.
So it is the duty of children to help their
parents in any household work in which
they can help.
17. Right to Scold and sometimes Beat
their children
If the children have a temptation to do an
act that is not in their long - term interest
it is the duty of the parents to keep them
back from that act or behavior.
To this end they may resort to advice ,
rebuke , scolding , even hitting them.
Good children should take all this '
harshness ' in their own interest.
18. Rights after Parents Death
1) To hold parents funeral prayers and
complete the burial per Shariah method.
2) Ask Forgiveness to Allah to pardon my
parents.
3) Must pay debts of parents or fulfill any
promises or oaths they made to anyone in
their life.
4) Must perform Hajj if their parents vowed for
Hajj.
5) To pay due regards to bonds of relationship
from their side.
