Please accept my warmest greetings and congratulations as you gather for
the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin of Queens and Long
Island, Inc.’s Childhood Obesity Awareness Program. I am grateful for the
opportunity to recognize the exemplary work of the Indian-American community
to combat obesity in our youth and encourage healthy living.
Since its inception, the AAPIQLI has been instrumental in advocating for,
and developing programs and policies to increase the presence of Indian-
Americans in health professions. One cause that has become increasingly
important is obesity in America. The effects of obesity have become more
prevalent in our society, and AAPIQLI has become increasingly more important
in advocating for better programming and more information for the Southeast
Asian community.
The success of the AAPIQLI is measured by the strength and dedication of
all its members and leadership. Through your commitment and effective
organization, you continue to improve access to healthcare access and inform
your community of issues to be aware of. I would also like to take the opportunity
to recognize the great work of Ehsaan Noorani, Shankar Mahadevan and Loy
Mendonsa for advocating and creating awareness around health related issues like
obesity and hypertension.
