- Orissa has seen increases in rice productivity over time, from 520 kg/ha in 1950-51 to 1557 kg/ha in 2006-07, but still lags behind national averages.
- The government of Orissa has implemented interventions like the National Food Security Mission, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, and the Agriculture Technology Management Agency to promote SRI and increase rice yields.
- While SRI has increased yields, there are some limitations and issues that still need to be addressed, such as applicability in small land holdings or rainfed areas, availability of organic matter and appropriate equipment, and nutrient management practices.

This is a summary of the effects of changing the management of plants, soil, water and nutrients according to the insights brought together in SRI. The figures are based on over a dozen evaluations, including ones by IWMI, GTZ, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, China Agricultural University, Nippon Koei and other institutions.
