The survey provides insights, benchmarks, and trends from the top 100 grossing app developers, asking over 100 detailed questions and enjoying a 65% survey response rate. 62% of respondents represented mobile game developers, and 38% represented non-gaming developers for various app categories, including entertainment, music, news, and others.
The document summarizes key insights from a survey of the top 100 grossing mobile app developers on app install advertising trends in the second half of 2015. Some of the main findings include:
1) Video and social media dominated app install budgets, though spend on social is plateauing due to increased competition.
2) App install budgets continued shifting towards video, social, and programmatic channels.
3) Mobile video spending saw a 24% increase and is accelerating as the focus on video grows.
4) Incentivized formats like offer walls and free app networks are declining in popularity as advertisers focus more on user quality.

Mobile advertising budgets and app install campaigns are growing significantly, projected to increase from $195.6 billion in 2013 to $133.7 billion in 2015. Quality of users, not just quantity, is becoming a key performance indicator for app install campaigns. Top developers are also expanding their localization efforts and number of geographic regions targeted for app installs. Major advertisers are consolidating with fewer top-performing partners. Traditional advertising channels like television, out-of-home, and print are seeing increased investment from app developers. Within mobile channels, video advertising is considered the most effective and exciting format.

AdColony User Acquisition Survey - Q1 2015AdColony
Conducted semi-annually, the AdColony User Acquisition Survey gathers insights, benchmarks, and trends from the top 100 grossing app developers.
While many mobile user acquisition surveys poll publishers of varying successes, this survey features data from only the top grossing iOS and Android developers. These developers already know how to build high quality apps, and their UA teams drive an average of 500,000 paid installs per month.
So what are the top developers doing to acquire high quality users at scale? What is their user acquisition strategy, what are they most excited about, and what has been the most successful for them? The answer is video.
98% of respondents turn to video for mobile user acquisition, making it the channel of choice among top grossing publishers. Interstitials, Facebook display, and other display ads follow closely behind as the top tier choices.
According to the survey, 50% of performance advertisers are most excited about video as a UA channel this year, making video 2.3x more popular than social and 23x more popular than display.
Interestingly, while the majority of respondents who use video are excited about the format, only one fourth of advertisers using social are excited about it, suggesting a level of discontent with social channels as optimism shifts to video.
Premium publications are facing challenges from free online content and competition from online publishers with lower costs. Traditional media advertising revenues are decreasing as audiences spend more time with digital media on multiple screens. Video advertising is a growing market, increasing 25% in 2013 and 53% in 2014, while digital display and video advertising are outpacing television. Reinventing advertising formats like outstream video can help monetize all content across devices and create new inventory to address these challenges.

This presentation reveals a brand-new method of engaging video viewers using 21st-century technology. Today using state-of-the-art proven technology and psychological triggers, passive video viewing can be transformed into highly interactive video engagement in your chosen market.
This presentation was given at the Advertising Week Mobile Ad Summit in September 2009. For the full effect please download, as there are a number of animated builds within the PowerPoint.
The document discusses 3 mobile trends for 2015:
1. Platforms like Facebook will vertically integrate more tools into their systems.
2. User acquisition (UA) will shift from offensive growth to defensive retention as competition increases. Alternative UA channels will proliferate.
3. Developers will focus more on retaining existing users and engaging their most loyal fans, as users have become more selective about which apps they use regularly.
This document discusses various statistics and research related to online video advertising. It finds that 74% of users dislike forced pre-roll video ads that play before video content. Only 5% of online video inventory is considered premium. The document then discusses how native video formats can create new types of video ad placements that are less disruptive to users. It introduces Teads' native video advertising solution, which aims to align user, brand, and publisher interests through a positive user experience with 100% viewable, non-intrusive ads. Finally, it provides statistics on Teads' reach and awards/recognitions.

Ad Research Foundation: Monetizing Second Screen with Holistic Viewer Insigh...Brian Crotty
The document discusses research from TiVo and CBS on second screen usage during television viewing. It found that mobiletasking, such as tweeting, increases engagement with television content and improves ad recall. The research also showed programs with high levels of socialtasking on second screens present advertising opportunities. It recommends using metrics like socialtasking rates and brand affinity to select programs and calibrate media costs to maximize return on investment.
The document discusses 5 ways that programmatic advertising will evolve globally and has already started changing. It predicts that advanced TV will receive larger budgets. It also mentions that offline sales attribution will improve and advertising will become better and more immersive. Additionally, it discusses the rise of programmatic guaranteed deals and bringing your own algorithms to the marketplace through weather triggers, custom audience algorithms, and performance ad networks. The document is authored by Sacha Berlik who is the Managing Director EMEA at Cognitiv.

Programmatic Buying for Performance Marketers: Fact vs. MythJessica Tams
This document provides information about programmatic buying for performance marketers. It begins by debunking some common myths about programmatic, such as that it is only real-time bidding or too tedious to set up. The document then discusses how programmatic, especially real-time bidding on ad exchanges, can provide scale for performance advertisers. It also notes that programmatic works best for user-based targeting rather than content-based targeting. Forget ad blocking, user experience is a big deal - Digiday WTF Ad Blocking N...Digiday
The document discusses how improving ad creative quality can positively impact user experience with advertising and reduce ad blocking. It notes that according to surveys, the majority of users feel ad creative has the biggest impact on their experience, rather than ad format or site placement. The document advocates that marketers allocate more resources to creative production and testing dynamic, personalized creative to improve relevancy for users. It also provides examples of how to optimize creative for different industries and platforms like mobile video.
This document provides an overview and key findings from a survey of over 200 UK marketers on the topics of retargeting, programmatic advertising, and performance marketing. Some of the main findings include:

Nielsen's maximizing digital roi bootcamp presentationMasha Geller
The American public is consuming more video content across various platforms each month. On average, Americans now consume 224 hours of content per month on TVs, computers, and mobile devices, an increase of 7 hours from the previous year. Mobile devices and digital platforms experienced the highest growth in consumption. As more devices become connected, the number of connected devices is expected to increase dramatically by 2020. However, measuring the effectiveness of advertising on new platforms like mobile remains a challenge due to issues with accuracy, frequency of impressions, and comparability of metrics across platforms. Nielsen is working to address these challenges and better understand cross-platform reach and effectiveness of advertising.
Mobile technology is becoming ubiquitous, with over 1 billion users expected by 2013. Mobility can increase sales and productivity, transform shopping experiences, and allow companies to stay connected to customers 24/7. It provides various benefits like increased revenues and profits. Successful mobile strategies align business objectives with the needs of the mobile workforce and choose the right delivery platform. AMI's L2M framework allows rapid integration of applications across platforms to meet industry mobility needs. Case studies show how mobility solutions from AMI helped companies like SAAB monitor field operations remotely, allowed Yamaha to increase its user portal access on mobile, and helped IC Science connect more healthcare professionals through a mobile forum application.
Videology is a leading provider of software for converged TV and video advertising. Their science-based technology enables customers to manage, measure, and optimize digital video and TV advertising across different screens. In the first half of 2015, 45% of video campaigns in Canada ran on more than one device, up from 39% in the second half of 2014, showing increasing use of cross-screen campaigns. Advertisers overwhelmingly chose to buy campaigns using a reserved, fixed price model similar to TV, with 97% of campaigns bought on a guaranteed CPM basis. The top five advertising categories on Videology's platform were CPG, auto, pharma, retail, and alcohol.

Kiosked and Brightcove have teamed up to educate online retailers on how to tell their story through video and more importantly how to directly drive revenue through video.
Video marketing is an effective strategy for small businesses to increase their online visibility and drive conversions. There are over 200 billion online videos viewed globally each month, and video content performs significantly better across key metrics like search engine rankings, email open rates, and click-through rates compared to text-based content. Additionally, online video viewership continues to grow substantially each year as more content is consumed on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. For small businesses, creating and sharing engaging video marketing content should be a priority to connect with customers and boost business objectives.
The document discusses how mobile connectivity is changing brand marketing to consumers. It finds that consumers, especially younger generations, are spending more time on their smartphones and tablets than desktop computers or TV. As a result, brands are changing their marketing strategies to focus more on mobile platforms. The document presents research showing that integrated multi-screen campaigns across TV and digital are more effective than campaigns using individual channels alone. It recommends that brands mobilize their owned media, include mobile advertising in all plans, and experiment with new forms of mobile connected marketing to leverage the opportunities of mobile and avoid falling behind competitors.

Breaking Silos To Break Bank: Shattering The Divide Between Search And SocialNavah Hopkins
At Mozcon 2024 I shared this deck on bridging the divide between search and social. We began by acknowledging that search-first marketers are used to different rules of engagement than social marketers. We also looked at how both channels treat creative, audiences, bidding/budgeting, and AI. We finished by going through how they can win together including UTM audits, harvesting comments from both to inform creative, and allowing for non-login forums to be part of your marketing strategy.
I themed this deck using Baldur's Gate 3 characters: Gale as Search and Astarion as Social
