  1. 1. SUPPORTED BY PROGRAM OVERVIEW
  2. 2. Veterans in Residence, is an incubator and leadership program that provides entrepreneurial community, business connections, and co-working space to help military veterans and military spouse entrepreneurs launch and scale their businesses. Through a highly selective and rigorous application process, a small group (8-10) veteran and military spouse entrepreneurs are selected to form a local or virtual cohort, together forming a national cohort of 300+ businesses across the country. The Veterans in Residence commit to the success of their individual mission, commit to the success of the cohort, and receive the following value from the program: Fully sponsored WeWork All Access Basic membership for six months. Fully Sponsored Workspace OVERVIEW Veterans in Residence meet weekly either as a local cohort or as a part of National Masterclass programming. WeWork & Bunker Labs provide ongoing business strategy support and connections, and select access to press and marketing opportunities, private leadership events, and introductions to potential investors and corporate partners, and resources. Business Skills & Support Veterans in Residence have full access to an alumni community of 500+ veteran and military family member CEOs, WeWork’s global community of 650,000+ members, and Bunker Labs’ national community of 10,000+ veteran entrepreneurs and business leaders. Local & National Community BUNKER LABS 2
  3. 3. Bunker Labs is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, built by military veteran entrepreneurs to empower the military-connected community to start and grow businesses. Through local chapters organized in cities across the U.S., Bunker Labs provides programming, connections, events, and thriving local networks to help the military-connected community succeed and thrive as entrepreneurs and innovators. The Bunker Labs mission is to ensure the military-connected community has the network, tools, and opportunities they need to start successful ventures. The Bunker Labs Theory of Change is to close the ecosystem access gap for military- connected community. We accomplish our mission by inspiring our community members to see their entrepreneurial potential. We equip our program participants with practical tools, insights, experts and resources to accelerate their success and we connect entrepreneurs with a robust community, and diverse, relevant networks. NOTE: *If Veterans in Residence is offered in location without a WeWork, a local coworking space will provide the same or fundamentally similar space while maintaining the current branding. All Virtual cohorts may/may not have access to coworking space. Who We Are BUNKER LABS 3 We work smart: we are solutions-oriented, simplifying the complex and pursuing clear outcomes We are fearlessly authentic: self-aware and acknowledging what we don’t know We love building a strong, inclusive entrepreneurial community and the people we are building it with We get it done: with great results, extreme ownership, and a can-do attitude We are magnanimous: assuming good intent and taking the high road in all interactions Core Values
  4. 4. Ambassadors/facilitators are designated volunteer leaders who facilitate the day to day operations of any given cohort. Bunker Labs Ambassadors work closely with community partners and Bunker Labs Staff when planning events or communicating general issues. They are truly a facilitator, not a mentor. Ambassadors, along with staff, will help connect you to proper mentors, resources and experts that you need to take your business to the next level. Ambassadors are often working on their own businesses so please be understanding and respectful of their time. BUNKER LABS AMBASSADORS/FACILITATORS WeWork Community Leads are WeWork stewards and advocates of the program in their respective cities. They facilitate registration, onboarding, community-wide events and connect the Veterans in Residence to other WeWork members externally and WeWork Communications leads internally, and manage general troubleshooting. They are managing several different accounts so please be understanding and respectful of their time. WEWORK COMMUNITY LEADS Alumni Captains are former VIR cohort members who have been given an additional 6 months of membership (to coincide with the next cohort). Each city may have up to 2 Alumni Captains. In return for continued membership and ability to participate with the next cohort, Alumni Captains are required to participate in the weekly sessions and help to take notes and operate the huddle tool etc. ALUMNI CAPTAINS The following leaders make up the core leadership team for each cohort. Regardless of their affiliation with WeWork or Bunker Labs, each lead plays a collaborative role in each cohort operationalizing day-to-day programming & events, in addition to setting the right expectations and monitoring the growth of each Veterans in Residence in their cohort. 5. 5. 250,000 active duty service members leave the military and return to civilian life every year, joining a community of 3.3 million total post 9-11 veterans and over 20 million total veterans in the United States. More than 25% of transitioning service members want to start their own business. THEMISSION Only 4.5% of post-9/11 military veterans have started their own business, citing lack of networks and business context as key challenges. This stands in contrast to the nearly 50% of returning veterans who started businesses after WWII. THECHALLENGE In spite of these trends, veteran-owned businesses have an outsized impact on the US economy; They represent over 9% of all U.S. businesses, employ 5.03 million people, and boast an annual payroll of $195 billion and receipts of $1.14 trillion. And among veteran entrepreneurs, 33% said they had gained skills from their active duty service that were directly relevant to business ownership, representing a largely untapped source of entrepreneurship and job creation in our communities. Veterans are talented entrepreneurs, natural leaders who inspire the broader community, and are committed to community, service, and creating a positive impact. Supporting veteran entrepreneurship is good for the business, the economy, and for our communities. THEOPPORTUNITY Why Are We Doing This? BUNKER LABS 5

  11. 11. CodeofConduct All information provided throughout the application process is accurate and complete. The cohort will establish a battle rhythm for weekly recurring virtual meetings (VIR Weekly Huddle). Cohort members are expected to attend. In the event you cannot attend, you will let the Bunker Labs City Leaders and WeWork Community Leads know. Intermittent absences due to appointments, business needs, etc., are acceptable. Continual absences will be cause for removal from the program. Be honest with other cohort members and yourself Be respectful of other cohort members, Bunker Labs staff, WeWork staff, and resources. Lead with empathy. You don’t know if something (a word, phrase, or action) is triggering to someone, we all come from different backgrounds and experiences. If someone states a phrase is offensive find a different way to come to a common place to have a discussion around the topic at hand. Respect violations can be grounds for immediate removal. Three Strikes Rule Strike 1: If a cohort member is failing to live up to expectations (participation, support, etc.), the member will be informed of the expectation not being met and afforded the opportunity to correct it. Strike 2: If the cohort member continues to fail to live up to expectations, the member will be counseled again and given a final chance to correct the behavior. Strike 3: if the situation happens again, the member will be removed from the program and WeWork membership revoked. If you’re having tough times, let the others know. 12. 12. The Showcase exists to rally business and civic leaders around the Veterans in Residence, making real connections that lead to real opportunities like customers, capital access, and partnerships. At the showcase, you will each have an opportunity to give your elevator pitch, have a booth of your own to promote your business, and most importantly, make connections with people that will move your business forward. All showcases will happen across the country through the week of May 22nd. WhatisaShowcase? Showcase Take the first weeks of the ViR program to identify what connections your business needs. Ask yourself some questions when thinking about who to invite: Who have I been meaning to connect with but have not yet? Who needs to see what I have been working on? What types of resources do I currently need or might need in the near future? Who can help one of my fellow cohort members? Start thinking about your elevator pitch. A successful elevator pitch should include: Your name and military affiliation Your business name Your business one-liner (what you do) Why you exist (what problem you are solving) Your ask to the people in attendance - make sure it is specific enough so people know how to help you! Ex. I am looking to connect with someone who is a subject matter expert in AI technologies. Practice your pitches with fellow cohort members and ask for/provide feedback! By the end of January, you should identify at least 10 people you would like to connect with at the showcase. howyoucanprepare The showcase is a perfect opportunity for you to put your business in front of potential stakeholders that can either help your business grow or extend your professional network. Participants will be provided with sample email invitations to invite connections Community-specific Eventbrite links will also be provided Invitations
