God has provided only one method of salvation - the foolishness of preaching. Throughout history, God used preachers like Noah to warn people and call them to repentance. All preaching that can save must be grounded in the word of God as revealed in scripture. From Moses to Christ to the apostles, God's word as contained in the Bible is the standard by which all preaching is to be measured. Faith comes by hearing the word of God preached.

The foolishness of preaching: A testing look at the Reason for Preaching
1. The Foolishness of preaching
1 Corinthians 1:21-24 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a
sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a
stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
It has always been God’s method to use preaching as means of delivering the gospel message to
the world. It is especially true near to the close of probation.
Jude 1:14-15 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the
Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all
that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and
of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
God granted them one hundred and twenty years of probation, and during that time preached to
them through Methuselah, Noah, and many others of His servants. Had they listened to the
testimony of these faithful witnesses, had they repented and returned to their loyalty, God would
not have destroyed them (RH April 23, 1901). {1BC 1088.4}
1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in
the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by
water.
2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of
righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
It is important to note that if Noah preached righteousness it therefore means that he preached
faith.
Romans 4:13, 16 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham,
or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Therefore it is of faith, that
it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which
is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of
Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Note that the promise of Genesis 3:15 is the same promise of Genesis 12:3; 22:18
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her
seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee
2. shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast
obeyed my voice.
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to
seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
God has provided only a single method of salvation; the foolishness of preaching
Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall
they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
All preaching that is of any use to salvation must necessarily mean that such preaching ought to
be the word of God
2 Timothy 4:1-2 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge
the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season,
out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
We allow Paul to explain which word he is referring to
Romans 10:14-17 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how
shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a
preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the
feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have
not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith
cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
This was the ancient test of all teachers and prophets
Isaiah 8:16, 20 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. To the law and to the
testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Let us look at an important statement of Christ then go to the source document for some
additional information
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna,
which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man
doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD
doth man live.
A look at Exodus 20:1 reveals some really important information.
Let us allow the wisest preacher to close this message on the foolishness of preaching
3. Ecclesiastes 12:8-12 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. And moreover, because
the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought
out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that
which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as
nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. And further, by
these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a
weariness of the flesh.
13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments:
for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every
secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
