Resources
 OERs allow greater access to course
materials to those that may otherwise not
be able to afford it
 The ability for the general public to access
course information from ivy league
schools such as MIT, Yale, etc.
 The potential to significantly reduce the
cost of course materials for college
students

3. Benefits of Open Educational
Resources
 OERs can be easily updated and
adapted, allowing the OER to stay up to
date with the most current information of
that subject/field
 OERs can be easily shared online to other
countries, allowing for a global sharing of
resources

4. Challenges of Open
Educational Resources
 It can be difficult and time consuming to
assess the quality of open education
resources
 It may be more convenient for
faculty/teachers to continuing using
traditional textbooks
 There is not the financial incentive of
creating a copyrighted textbook or class
material

 Need to train people on how to use,
access, and properly cite OERs
 Creative Commons licenses are not
revocable
