11. Asset Services Capability
A sound approach to Asset Inspection has a major cost benefit for asset owners. In
particular:
• Effective asset inspection and condition assessment has the potential to
significantly influence the overall value of maintenance programs;
• The risks of failing to identify defective assets are substantial and represent a major
exposure to the community and a liability to the asset owner and its management.
• The cost to the asset owner of incorrect condition assessment which knocks out
excessive numbers of poles which still retain a period of serviceable life represents
a waste of budgeted asset replacement funds which can be applied far more
productively.
12. Asset Services Capability
• Asset (Inspection) Services is a long-term, core business for Electrix.
• We work in a range of environments from CBD to remote rural locations.
• Our customers rely on us to inspect over 300,000 poles and related assets per annum
to ensure the safety and reliability of their networks.
• We provide these services for electricity distribution networks and private asset owners
across Australia.
• Experience with a wide range of assets and inspection methodologies (i.e. assist the
review of your Asset Inspection Manual).
• Inclement weather conditions
• Wildlife (i.e snakes)
• Traversing difficult terrain
• Difficult / Irate customers

“Pole Top” Inspection
20. Value Added Services
Non Destructive Testing (PortaCat);
1. Thor - an Acoustic Tester designed for fast and efficient on-site assessment of the
condition of a timber pole and uses state-of-the-art signal processing. A frontline
tool for quickly determining if a pole is safe to climb and as a lead in to the
PortaSCAN and WoodScan analytical tools for a more thorough assessment.
2. PortaScan - Using a pencil beam of low-energy gamma rays into the timber surface
and measuring the variation in energy that is returned which estimates the amount
of good timber remaining.
3. RLS Meter - Accurately predict and quantify corrosion loss of steel poles to improve
scheduled replacement and minimise unexpected failures.
• Ultrasonic testing – Using a combination of the Positector
6000 Gauge Tester and the Time Ultrasonic Thickness
Gauge to determine the thickness of the steel pole and
assessed against a “Grade of Rust Detected” table.
