2. INTRODUCTION
• Road accident means an accident caused by the collision of vehicles
with pedestrian , cyclist or any others external objects .
• It is the unwanted things to happen to the road users which leads
to the injury or damage of the to the property , people , vehicles,
etc.
4. CAUSES OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
Main causes of accidents and crashes are due to human errors . Elaborating some of
the common behavior of human which may cause accidents :
Over speeding ,
Drunken driving ,
Distraction to driver ,
Red light jumping ,
Avoiding safety gears like seat belts and helmet ,
Overtaking in wrong manner , etc.

5. OVER SPEEDING
• Most of the fatal accidents occur due to the over speeding. Increase in speed
multiplies the risk of accident and severity of injury during accidents.
• Faster vehicles are more prone to accidents than the slower one . Faster vehicle
needs long time to stop and it has greater impact during the crashes. ‘Higher the
speed , greater the risk.’

6. DRUNKEN DRIVING
• Consumption of alcohol to celebrate any occasion is common but when mixed with
driving it may turns to accident .Alcohol reduces concentration .
• It decreases reaction time of human body .
• It also hampers vision due to dizziness . All these factors causes accidents which
may be fatal.

7. DISTRACTION TO DRIVER
• Distraction could be inside or outside the vehicles.
• Taking in phone is the major distraction
• Animals on the road
• Radio in vehicles
• Phone calls
• Side talk

10. RED LIGHT JUMPING
• It is common sight at road intersection that vehicles/users cross without caring for
light.
• Traffic signals followed properly by driver saves times and risk of occurring
accident. It provides safety to the road users.

11. AVOIDING SAFETY GEARS LIKE SEAT BELT
AND HELMET
• Use of seat belts in four wheeler is mandatory and helmet in two wheelers .
• It helps to reduce the severity of injury during accidents.
• Use of seat belts and helmet doubles the chance of survival in serious accidents.

16. PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Drive in the prescribed speed limits on the various roads.
Always put on helmets, seat belts and other safety equipment before driving.
Do not drink and drive.
Never use mobile phones or earphones while driving . Remember, a mobile call on
the road may be the last call of your life.
know the traffic sign , signals , lights and traffic safety rules . Road safety are the
best tools to avoid the accidents .
Do not drive for long hours. “Man is a human not a machine”.
Regular maintenance of vehicle.
