2. Suzanne Collins: Biography
Suzanne Collins was born on 1962. She was
the last of four children. During Suzanne’s
childhood her and her family had to travel for
her dad’s work. In 1987, she moved to New
York, New York to write for children. Suzanne
had many ideas for making the Hunger Games
series. One of the many ideas are she watched
many shows that gave her ideas.
Suzanne has created three great books that I
know of: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire,
and Mockingjay.
Hunger Games is the only one I read but I
know the other two are going to be great.
They are great books and I’m sure many
people hope she will make more!

3. Summary
The Hunger Games is a book about a girl; named
Katniss, her sister; Prim, and her mom. During the
reaping for the Games, Prim gets chosen! Katniss
refuses to let her go, so she told them that she would
do it. The boy tribute is Peeta Mellark who has had a
crush on Katniss since they were five years old. No
one knows Peeta’s secret until the interview for the
tributes. He releases his secrets there and then to the
world. Now During the Games they say that two
people form the same tribute could win. They say this
because they know that Peeta and Katniss want to
have a good life together. Peeta and Katniss struggle
to win the hunger games and you will not know until
you read this outstanding book.

• Main Characters
1. Katniss Everdeen is the narrator of the novel and
she went to the Hunger Games because she did not
want her sister to die.
2. Peeta Mellark is the boy tribute who went to the
Hunger Games with Katniss.
• Supporting Characters
1. Haymitch is a man who won the Hunger Games in
the Past. He was always drunk until Katniss and Peeta
helped him through it.
2. Rue is a 12 year old from District 11 who has to
compete in the Hunger Games. She surprisingly
stayed alive for a while and made a group with
Katniss.

5. Plot
Introduction
- The future tense of North America now called Panem
or District 12.
- Finding out what Katniss is like.
Rising Action
- The reaping for the games start.
- Katniss says all of her goodbyes.
- Training for Games start.
- Katniss get 11 out of 12 for skill!
- Interviews start and Peeta reveals his secret crush on
Katniss.
Climax
- The games begin
- Katniss and Rue team up.

6. Characters (continued)
- Rue dies during their plan to steal weapons.
- They change the rule that two tributes from the same District
can win if both are alive at the end.
- Katniss screams out Peeta’s name because she is so
excited.
Falling Action
- Katniss finds Peeta buried under mud, sticks, nature, etc.
Katniss only found him because he talked.
- Peeta’s leg has had a sword slash his leg which leaves a
bleeding scar. Katniss helps him until he’s better.
Conclusion
- Peeta and Katniss both win and get to go home.
- (The rest gives away ending)

I gave The Hunger Games a rating of

The book was great and had great description. I
always knew what was happening. The only
minor detail I didn’t like was it was to easy to
know what was happening next. I don’t really
care about that so the book was great and I
can’t wait to read the next book!
