Getting Started With the Roamly Overlay SIM Card
IMPORTANT NOTICE! Please Install and Register your Roamly Overlay SIM Card in
your home country before you travel.
•••• EMERGENCY SERVICES •••••
Roamly is not intended to support or carry emergency calls.
Neither 999, 112, 911 nor e-911 service nor any other emergency service is available through the
Roamly service. If you dial “999” or “911”(or other internationally recognized emergency service
numbers) while using the Roamly service you will not be connected to an emergency operator,
and neither your phone number nor your location will be reported to an emergency operator.
However this does not prevent you using your mobile phone for making emergency calls via your
cellular provider as normal when roaming. From the Roamly menu, turn Roamly OFF.
Before you buy the Roamly SIM
Phone Compatibility
Most GSM phones will work with the Roamly
Overlay SIM card, however, please make
sure you have a phone that is compatible with
Roamly. A list of compatible phones can be
found at www.roamly.com/compatible-phones/.
At this time (Autumn 2012), the Roamly Overlay
SIM card only fits the standard SIM card.
Roamly Micro and Nano Overlay SIM cards are
coming soon.
Before you start installing the
Roamly SIM
Unlocking
Some mobile phone service providers install a
“lock” on phones to try to ensure that customers
stay on their service. In order for Roamly
operate, your mobile phone needs to be
unlocked. If you are unsure whether or not your
phone is carrier unlocked, please contact your
home service provider. If your phone is locked,
you can find further information on
unlocking your phone in our FAQ section at
www.roamly.com//?page=faq
Call forwarding
To allow you to receive calls to your home
mobile number while traveling abroad, Roamly
forwards all calls dialed to your home mobile
number to a Roamly number in the country
you are roaming in. In order to do this,
Roamly needs call forwarding enabled on your
mobile account.
Most wireless carrier mobile phone packages
include call forwarding. Please check with your
wireless carrier if your account includes call
forwarding. To assist you with this, Roamly will
test the call forwarding feature during initial set-
up. If call forwarding is NOT enabled, Roamly
will display “RCF” on the top of your mobile
screen (next to your Home Service Provider
identifier). If you don’t currently have call
forwarding set up on your mobile, please call
your mobile provider to add the feature to
your account.
If you’ve confirmed the above three
requirements are met, please proceed with
installing the Roamly Overlay SIM card.

to ensure this step is done correctly. Make sure
that the combined SIMs are fully inserted and
lined up properly with any guides your mobile
phone may have.
Step 6

you will receive a Roamly welcome text

Roamly User Guide Top Up
The top-up activation requires you to input
credit card details associated with your
Roamly account. An initial payment of $20 USD
minimum is needed to start your account.
Payments can be made with Visa, MasterCard
or American Express.
You will be asked to choose manual or
auto-top up.
Manual top-up means that you will need to
log-in to your account to manually top-up your
account, or manually top-up your account
through the Roamly Menu in your Roamly
application on your mobile device. You’ll need
to do this each time you get a low balance
alert via text message. This occurs when your
account drops to $10 USD.
Auto top-up means that your account will
automatically be topped up by a pre-defined
amount (you to choose – any amount of
$20 USD or more) when your account drops
to $11 USD. You will receive an SMS or e-mail
every time auto-up transaction is made.
Monthly Administration Fee
Your account will be debited by $1 USD each
month from account activation. The $1 USD is
an account administration fee to keep your SIM
card activated and ready for immediate travel.
Your Roamly SIM Card will not expire providing
the administration fee is collected.

Using Roamly
When you land in your destination, turn your
phone on – if already on, turn it off and back on.
Roamly will detect you are abroad and activate
automatically. There will be a 1-5 minute delay
as Roamly locates the best partner network,
once connected you will receive a welcome
message. You can now make voice, SMS
and data calls and save up to 80% off regular
roaming rates.
Tip: To make sure that your phone selects
Roamly partner network automatically, please
tick settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network
Operators -> Select Automatically.
Note: While Roamly is in the process of
connecting to a partner network, you may
receive texts from your home mobile operator
that were sent to you while you were travelling
and out of reach. You may also receive
welcome messages from your Home Mobile
Operator. These are not associated with
Roamly and can be ignored.
Using data
Data is always available via Roamly. To use
data make sure you have enabled Cellular Data
and Data Roaming on your device.
Sending SMS & dialing to make a voice calls
When abroad and roaming with Roamly, you
must dial all voice calls and SMS using the
international dialing prefix. Tip: Always add
the international prefix to all your saved
contact numbers.
For example, if your home country is USA and
your home city is NYC and you are used to
calling a friend by dialing 212 555 1212, when
you are abroad on Roamly, you’ll need to dial
+ 1 212 555 1212.
The format for the international prefix looks
like this:
(+) (country code) (area code) (phone number).
Example:
+ (1) (212) XXX XXXX (USA)
+(44) 207 XXX XXXX (UK)
+(65) 8XXX XXXX (Singapore)
**Note1: dialing internationally on a mobile
device is a little bit different than dialing on a
landline. To get the ‘+’ on most mobile phones,
you’ll need to hold down the number ‘0’ until
you see the ‘+’ sign. Phone models vary, so
there may be a separate key for the ‘+’.
***Note 2: When calling from North America and
the EU voice calls will go through as “normal”.
When calling from any other country, there
may be a slight change in the way your call
is connected. When you dial the number, the
call may drop and then ring you back. Answer
the call and you’ll hear a ringing – this is your
original call – just wait for your caller to pick up.

Roamly User Guide Receiving SMS & voice calls
Your contacts at home or abroad are still able
to call you at your mobile number and text you
without any changes to their dialing behavior.
Home Mobile Number
We refer to your ‘home mobile number’ as the
existing mobile number you use in your home
country. Calls made to your home number will
reach you wherever you travel in the world on
a Roamly partner network. Note: Callers from
outside of your home country will have to dial
the international prefix when calling you.
If you need any further help, contact our Live
Chat at our website www.roamly.com.
BlackBerry users!
Roamly works with RIM BlackBerry devices for
voice calls and SMS messages. Currently we
don’t support BlackBerry data or BBM service.
To use BlackBerry data services while roaming
with the Roamly SIM, please switch off Roamly
(menu, ROAMLY OFF) to access data. Keep in
mind - you will be accessing data on your home
carrier plan, subject to their roaming rates.
When ready to switch back, (menu, ROAMLY
ON) all voice and SMS calls will be charged
at Roamly rates, up to 80% off regular
roaming charges.
Global device compatibility
There are many factors that impact the Roamly
SIM and device compatibility. There is an
enormous variability of handsets available
worldwide and different versions of mobile
operating systems. While the Roamly SIM is
consistently tested and works with most GSM
phones, we cannot guarantee 100% device
compatibility. All sales of the Roamly SIM card
are final.
Return Home
Once you return to home network, Roamly will
automatically cancel Call Forwarding settings.
If Roamly (?) displayed on top of phone screen
bar this indicates that Roamly couldn’t reset
Call Forwarding to allow you to receive voice
calls to your home cell phone number. Please
dial #21# and press send – this will clear any
Roamly Call Forwarding settings.

Using Roamly When you land in your destination, turn your phone on – if already on, turn it off and back on. Roamly will detect you are abroad and activate automatically. There will be a 1-5 minute delay as Roamly locates the best partner network, once connected you will receive a welcome message. You can now make voice, SMS and data calls and save up to 80% off regular roaming rates. Tip: To make sure that your phone selects Roamly partner network automatically, please tick settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators -> Select Automatically. Note: While Roamly is in the process of connecting to a partner network, you may receive texts from your home mobile operator that were sent to you while you were travelling and out of reach. You may also receive welcome messages from your Home Mobile Operator. These are not associated with Roamly and can be ignored. Using data Data is always available via Roamly. To use data make sure you have enabled Cellular Data and Data Roaming on your device. Sending SMS & dialing to make a voice calls When abroad and roaming with Roamly, you must dial all voice calls and SMS using the international dialing prefix. Tip: Always add the international prefix to all your saved contact numbers. For example, if your home country is USA and your home city is NYC and you are used to calling a friend by dialing 212 555 1212, when you are abroad on Roamly, you’ll need to dial + 1 212 555 1212. The format for the international prefix looks like this: (+) (country code) (area code) (phone number). Example: + (1) (212) XXX XXXX (USA) +(44) 207 XXX XXXX (UK) +(65) 8XXX XXXX (Singapore) **Note1: dialing internationally on a mobile device is a little bit different than dialing on a landline. To get the ‘+’ on most mobile phones, you’ll need to hold down the number ‘0’ until you see the ‘+’ sign. Phone models vary, so there may be a separate key for the ‘+’. ***Note 2: When calling from North America and the EU voice calls will go through as “normal”. When calling from any other country, there may be a slight change in the way your call is connected. When you dial the number, the call may drop and then ring you back. Answer the call and you’ll hear a ringing – this is your original call – just wait for your caller to pick up. Keep your mobile number Be reachable at your current mobile number while abroad ✔✔ Save up to 80% on roaming charges ✔✔ No inconvenience of managing another international number ✔✔ Integrated voicemail, so you never miss that important call. Customer help available via Live Chat at the top of every page on www.roamly.com 6www.roamly.com Roamly User Guide Receiving SMS & voice calls Your contacts at home or abroad are still able to call you at your mobile number and text you without any changes to their dialing behavior. Home Mobile Number We refer to your ‘home mobile number’ as the existing mobile number you use in your home country. Calls made to your home number will reach you wherever you travel in the world on a Roamly partner network. Note: Callers from outside of your home country will have to dial the international prefix when calling you. If you need any further help, contact our Live Chat at our website www.roamly.com. BlackBerry users! Roamly works with RIM BlackBerry devices for voice calls and SMS messages. Currently we don’t support BlackBerry data or BBM service. To use BlackBerry data services while roaming with the Roamly SIM, please switch off Roamly (menu, ROAMLY OFF) to access data. Keep in mind - you will be accessing data on your home carrier plan, subject to their roaming rates. When ready to switch back, (menu, ROAMLY ON) all voice and SMS calls will be charged at Roamly rates, up to 80% off regular roaming charges. Global device compatibility There are many factors that impact the Roamly SIM and device compatibility. There is an enormous variability of handsets available worldwide and different versions of mobile operating systems. While the Roamly SIM is consistently tested and works with most GSM phones, we cannot guarantee 100% device compatibility. All sales of the Roamly SIM card are final. Return Home Once you return to home network, Roamly will automatically cancel Call Forwarding settings. If Roamly (?) displayed on top of phone screen bar this indicates that Roamly couldn’t reset Call Forwarding to allow you to receive voice calls to your home cell phone number. Please dial #21# and press send – this will clear any Roamly Call Forwarding settings. © Copy right 2013, Roamly is proudly designed in Canada. All rights reserved.
