E. L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, DC, owes its existence in part to the work of Robb LaKritz and Joshua Adler, United States Treasury alumni-turned-successful real estate developers and investors. The school was opened in 2004 on land acquired by the firm of LaKritz Adler Real Estate Development in the historically significant Petworth community. Robb LaKritz and his partner had previously concluded several other restoration and development projects in the neighborhood, including the renovation of a building that is now home to a CVS pharmacy.

2. Introduction
 E. L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, DC,
owes its existence in part to the work of Robb LaKritz and
Joshua Adler, United States Treasury alumni-turned-
successful real estate developers and investors. The
school was opened in 2004 on land acquired by the firm of
LaKritz Adler Real Estate Development in the historically
significant Petworth community. Robb LaKritz and his
partner had previously concluded several other restoration
and development projects in the neighborhood, including
the renovation of a building that is now home to a CVS
pharmacy.
Today, the 45,000-square-foot school serves more than
1,000 pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students on two
campuses, one in Petworth and the other in Columbia
Heights. It was named in honor of educator Euphemia
Lofton Haynes, who devoted close to 50 years of her life to
instructing students in the District’s public schools.

 The institution's focus on math and science
education is apt given that Dr. Haynes was
among the very first African-American women to
earn a degree in mathematics.
The award-winning school started small, as home
to fewer than 150 students in the lower
elementary grades, but since then has fulfilled its
strategic plans for growth. In 2015, it graduated
