2. Tim Burton
• My first inspiration in the media industry would be Tim Burton, I grew up
watching his adaptation of Batman and his sequel Batman Returns, I loved the
dark and gothic style of his films, the overall style of his movies is what made me
follow the media path with the passion I have for it today, to hopefully one day be
able to accomplish my dream role in the media industry which is directing or
producing and to be able to make movies like his to inspire other people that
aspire to be a part of such a growing industry that brought us countless hours of
entertainment, memories and inspiration.
3. Tobe Hooper
• My second inspiration is Tobe Hooper, the director of the original and arguably the best Texas Chainsaw
Massacre film, this film using real life aspects and practical effects as well as the slower pace and a great
payoff from the scares made this film stick in my head as a favourite I will always revisit, this ignited my
passion and love for horror films, Tobe Hooper inspired me with this film to follow the horror genre and
made me want to some-day make my own horror film that can be as enjoyed and as well known as his, the
character Leatherface is one of the first few horror characters that come to mind when you think horror, that
level of dedication to make a film as enjoyed, memorable and called back to as this one makes me put the
same level of effort into my work to reach the heights of the most crucial role in the media industry as
director to make my mark in the history of media.
4. John Carpenter
• My third and final inspiration is John Carpenter, the director of the first Halloween film from 1978, this
movies slow pace as Michael Myers stalks his victims is a style not done by most films in the slasher genre,
this slow pace makes Michael appear more frightening as there is a build up before the inevitable kill of his
victim, this style of pacing has always been interesting to me as it shows that a good slasher doesn’t have to
rely on a huge set of kills, gore or jump scares but merely a threatening and intimidating presence of the
killer through the camera work, music score and the presentation of the killer themself, the unique choice of
the slow buildup made the movie interesting and kept me watching to see the payoff of the kill, this is what
made me keep up with the series and its what inspired me to want to make my own horror films that keep
that same effect and interest, this is another key element of what led me down the path of media and what
led me to become a media student, to learn the skills i need to reach my desired role of director/producer in
the media industry
