2. What is
Sunderland
Culture
• Sunderland culture is a registered charitable organisation that
brings together Sunderland's most important cultural assets and
activities, they operate the national glass centre and northern
gallery of contemporary art, they also operate the Sunderland
museum and the winter gardens as well as the Sunderland
Stages and the fire station.
• They run cross-city programmes such as the UK City of Culture
Bid and Great Place Scheme.
• They do this to ‘realise the ambition of a city brimming with
creative potential’ and ‘to improve life of everyone in Sunderland
through culture’
• Sunderland Culture runs from the investments of its 3 main
funders; Sunderland City Council, University of Sunderland and
the Music, Arts and Culture Trust into a ‘single, independent and
resilient delivery model’.
3. • In march 2018 they worked with other organisations through the Sunderland Cultural
Partnership to launch the twenty four seven programme
• The target audience is everyone as they offer cultural activities for everyone of all ages
as they want to help ‘in some way to keep creativity and culture relevant and helpful to
everyone in Sunderland’ meaning that Sunderland Culture is open to help everyone
and anyone in Sunderland discover its culture and keep it relevant.
