Boys soccer preseason rankings 2014 copy
1. HS BOYS SOCCER
POWER RANKINGS
WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 2014
WALLKILL – The Panthers got off to an interesting start in their own Donald
Andrews Tournament, finishing third*. What’s the asterisk for? Technically,
Wallkill is still undefeated. They played the opening round game to a draw with
Newburgh before falling on penalty kicks, and then beat Washingtonville in OT,
2-1.
2. HS BOYS SOCCER
POWER RANKINGS
WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 2014
RHINEBECK – The Hawks are off to a 3-0 start after winning their own Andy
Bennett Tournament over the weekend for the sixth consecutive. And this isn’t
like a college football homecoming where they invite the worst teams they can
find, either. Rhinebeck beat its archrival – and a good team in its own right – in
Red Hook, 4-0, in the title game.
3. HS BOYS SOCCER
POWER RANKINGS
WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 2014
SPACKENKILL – The Spartans were yet another team that hosted its own
tourney, the Steve Cox Memorial Tournament, and the hosts came out
victorious after beating Poughkeepsie in the semifinals and then shutting out
New Paltz, 2-0, in the title game. Spackenkill is now 3-0 and has a good one
Thursday vs. Ellenville, which always plays Sparty tough. Emphasis on tough.
4. HS BOYS SOCCER
POWER RANKINGS
WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 2014
JOHN JAY – Never discount the Patriots. Ever. No matter how many
graduation losses, it’s just one of those programs that’s always going to be
there at the end, year in and year out. Jay is off to a 2-0 start, including
Monday’s 7-0 dismantling of Lourdes. Three good ones coming up – at
Carmel, Ketcham under the lights on Saturday, and then Arlington on
Tuesday.
5. HS BOYS SOCCER
POWER RANKINGS
WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 2014
ARLINGTON – The two-time defending Section One, Class AA champions are
off to a 4-0 start despite losing 18 seniors to graduation, the latest being a 3-0
triumph over Ketcham on Monday. George Pogyo nd Vinny Colantuono have
done a nice job of stepping up and filling the scoring void for the Admirals.
Arlington has OLL on Wednesday and always-tough Mahopac on Friday.
