MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol created by IBM and Arcon that is commonly used with devices that have limited resources. It provides an open standard for devices to communicate by opening topics, publishing messages to those topics, and allowing other devices to subscribe to topics and receive messages. Mosquitto is an open source MQTT broker that can be run from the command line to start the server and includes client programs to publish and subscribe to topics.
