A Lesson In Being 'Dollar Wise'
The one purpose of your business is to get more customers.
Period. More customers means more money.
Most business owners don't realize the great investment that
strong copywriting is to their business. Sad but true.
Now let's imagine you're selling a product that's priced at $100,
and for every 100 visitors to your website you make 1 sale.
That's a 1% conversion on sales. In other words, 1% of your
visitors make a purchase.
If you hired the services of a talented copywriter like myself your
sales can improve to 3 sales per 100 visitors; so that's 3%

Now let's be very conservative and say that you were making 10

copy for something I don't believe in. So the effort will not

But I had a few lessons to learn along the way—lessons I hope you wouldn’t have to learn
the hard way as I did.
It was around the year 2010-11. My business was growing by leaps and bounds so I flew
to Maui with my queen, Kim, and decided to set up residence there—talk about a
paradise!
I mean, I had a huge $80,000 week which turned into a steady $128,000 plus per month.
Not a bad income for a 31 year old.
Hundreds of leads were pouring into the business daily, and with them, a ton-load of cash!
I was on the top of the world, Titanic style! Life couldn’t be better.
But a terrible case of Murphy’s law—if anything can go wrong it will—was about to hit
me over the head. Google was about to pee on my party and plummet my business from
making $128,000 plus per month to $15,000 per month!
Yes, along with a lot of other marketers, Google Adwords had dropped me without remedy
and the main source of my traffic was now a dessert dry land. Personal depression
quickly set in that couldn’t be wiped away by any number of bottles of beer or cigarettes I
desperately gulped down.
We finally decided to return to my hometown Washington, DC, with my dreams of
paradise almost crushed and my business on the brink of declaring bankruptcy …
And it was about to get worst …
“Thank God For The IRS!”
Not long after returning to DC I received an initial audit notification from the IRS. About 8
days after this I got a new letter in the mail from Uncle Sam saying: “[URGENT] You Owe
The IRS $553,861. Payment Due August 30th, 2011”.
I guess I didn’t schedule my little audit appointment fast enough for them. The next day I
headed over to my CPA’s office and met with him for 1 hour and 44 minutes (that’s what
the $735 bill said) signed over power of attorney to him for my first audit ever.
By later that day he had straightened things out and set up our August 30th audit.
I felt “some” relief, but I knew I had a HUGE task ahead of me. How huge? Well, there
was a ton of receipts to find and print—my $300 Kinko’s printing bill would give you an
idea.
Needless to say, when the dust had all settled it turned out that I had owed the IRS over
$983,000! Talk about poor timing. Just when my business was drying up because of a
lack of a reliable source of quality traffic, I now had the IRS on my back.
I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out. It almost destroyed me. The ONE thing I wanted
to achieve was long term stability, and the most recent chain of events left me staring a
$1M audit in the face. And this had everything to do with ONE thing …
"TRAFFIC!"
If I couldn’t find a stable source of traffic to support my business, then everything I had
been through would have been for naught.
Now they say there is always a silver lining behind every dark cloud, but this cloud had
golden one. You’d think this came from a Hollywood movie script but life is often stranger
than fiction.
Because while I was sitting in my office thinking through everything I just shared with you,
Kim brought me the answer I was searching for in the form of an invoice. This was from
a company that I paid $29,000 in 2008 and $32,000 the following year.
As soon as I saw this piece of paper, inspiration hit me like a bolt of lightning! I had spent
tens of thousands of dollars with this company since the first year I came online, without
giving it a second thought. Yet this was more money than I had spent on any marketing
course, training or coaching.
What’s more, while my business had changed and failed several times (to the point where I
had to reinvent it from the ground up), this company that I ‘gave’ well over $100k to,
hadn’t changed at all. And this business model was SO much simpler than mine.
They had exactly what I had been searching for ALL this time. But somehow I was FAR
too blind to see it.
"They Had Consistency
And Stability"
The invoice was from a newsletter publishing company called ArcaMax. I had paid them
all that money to send email advertisement to their subscribers. You see, when you
become the source of traffic, that’s when your business becomes a never ending cash
machine.
In fact, when you become the source of traffic, that’s when you attract the best customers
in the marketplace. I had spent $100ks, and never thought about it. I needed what they
had, and they had LOTs of customers just like me.
Here was the answer before me hiding in plain sight!
Soon I was on my feet, with tears in my eyes, pacing back and forth in my office. My
mind started racing with all kinds of new possibilities:
· What if I could be the next “ArcaMax” for the home business marketplace?
· What if I could attract customers I never could have before?
· Maybe I could open my business to a new source of revenue that wouldn’t compete
with, but add, to everything I was already doing.
· If I could pull this off, maybe … just maybe, I could pay off my IRS tax bill quicker
than I ever thought possible.
· If I could be like Arcamax, all I had to do was send out an email make PURE profit,
and as my newsletter became more popular, the more advertising revenue I’d make. And
still, the only ‘work’ involved would be sending one email to my mailing list!
"Why Wasn't This Done Before?"
But then came the negative thoughts: “Why hadn’t I seen anyone else in my market doing
this? Was I missing something? Could this be something that will destroy what I already
had?”
I almost didn’t try this new approach, but a voice deep inside said, “You’ve got nothing to
lose, just try it”. So I clenched my teeth, sent a short email to my list that night, and I was
open for business!
Within 24 hours I had made two, $7,500 sales for solo ads to my newsletter subscribers.
This was much easier money than I’d ever made selling a $97 eBook. By now I knew I
had struck a gold mine.
As the week came to and end, 3 more $7,500 sales came in and within 2 months my
business had ballooned from almost nonexistence to over $200,000 per month … then
$300,000. And it’s been like that ever since.
This eliminated any and all issues I had with the IRS and gave me a breakthrough idea for
our industry.
When I realized that being the source of traffic was the ULTIMATE way to create the
MOST stable business, the answer of where to find stable traffic followed naturally.
Now I had traffic, leads, stability and income. What surprised me the MOST though, was
that every single person I shared this little idea with, for them the effect was just as
dramatic…

It’s hard to believe, but my first batch of customers all succeeded—my program had a
whopping 100% success rate.
“Why So Many
Online Businesses Fail?”
I’ve been in the home-based business industry for close to a decade now and I’ve seen the
excitement of starting a new business change into despair, confusion and finally failure for
many entrepreneurs.
Now I’m not talking here about tire-kickers who are just “trying to make extra buck
online”. But serious business owners who attended seminars, bought courses from the
experts, invested in traffic generation, sign up for all the marketing newsletters, paid
coaches ... I mean, they took their business seriously and yet they failed.
Depending on who you ask about the reasons for the popularly quoted “97% failure rate
for startup businesses” you’ll get a different answer. The Small Business Association
places lack of business experience, poor planning and under capitalization as top reasons
for failure.
Industry experts would tell you that the reason is that “you need whatever they are
selling”.
And I’m all for investing in your marketing education and tools because I’ve spent close to
$1M on my education—seminars, personal coaching, courses, marketing books—but
experience taught me that their reasons given for failure are all wrong.
“It’s Not What You Think”
The single biggest reason for most online businesses failure is not what you think.
And once you wake up to this reality, your entire paradigm is going to change as you
realize that it’s not your fault.
Now of course I realize this is a bold claim I’m making, but it doesn’t come from an article
I read online, but from years of doing and studying this market. So I’ve paid my dues to
the marketing experts and in the school of hard knocks. And I’m about to give you the
lessons I learned here for free.
One of the very first product I invested in as an online entrepreneur that brought me some
measure of success was called Google Cash. This product taught you how to set up PPC
ads using Google Adwords which sent traffic to affiliate sites from which you made a
commission on each sale.
The beauty about this system was once it was set up, you did nothing afterwards but pay
your PPC bill and hopefully make a profit on the other end. It was a simple arbitrage
system—you bought traffic and with the hope of making a profit from that traffic.
"Lessons From The Trenches"
I learned a quick lesson from the seller because the purchase was automated so he got
the sale without talking to me first. He effortlessly turned my curiosity and desire into
money.
I also learned a lesson about traffic and making money: Right traffic + the right offer =
effortless income. It’s the magic of monetization
Then I spent top dollars to purchase leads from a source where I had no idea how the
leads were generated. Because I had no solid selling experience I almost went broke trying
to sell to these leads. I quickly discovered that the wrong offer plus the wrong traffic =
going broke fast.
I immediately set about to fill in this gap in my experience by joining Success University. I
also took control of THE most important factor that would lead to results--traffic
generation.
Coupled with this new program, the traffic generation started producing results and I
quickly realized that: Targeted email traffic + irresistible offer = instant conversions
"Working Less And Getting More"
It was not hard for me see that if I reduced my activities to just what works, remove the
constraints and increase control over the critical variables I could now leverage these
efforts into incredible success. Do the 20% that gives the 80% results and just forget the
rest.
And here is how I leveraged my efforts: by running advertising co-ops I dramatically
increased my volume of traffic I could control and our team grew like crazy in whatever
opportunity we joined as a group. Lesson? Leveraged traffic plus an irresistible offer =
job replacing income.
Wealth seldom comes from the effort of just one person no matter how talented and
brilliant he or she is. But when a small working idea can be carried by many, the returns
are bigger than the sum of each individual effort. They call this the principle of synergy.
Now it was time for me to create my first product, an ebook I sold for $97, and within
months I was at six figures. This changed my mindset right away from exchanging time
for money to working once and getting repeated sales on that same product.
Now I had proved to myself that: Your own product + targeted traffic = a six figure
income.
I was able to invest this money I was now making into a high ROI product and quickly get
out of debt. The more money I was able to keep, the faster I was able to move up the
income scale.
If you want to make millions, then the shortest path is to learn from those who is already
doing it. At a Yanik Silver’s Underground Seminar I picked up the little tip of emailing my
list twice per day instead of once. I was first timid about this approach, but this simple
change doubled my email traffic and my business.
"Diversify Or Die!"
Then I discovered (from a $10,000 coaching session I grudgingly paid for) that if I didn’t
diversify my source of traffic, my business would be vulnerable and eventually die.
As I mentioned before, I learned that lesson the hard way when Google dropped me. You
see, 10 “good” sources of traffic is better than one “super” source. Diversify or die.
The next big question for me was how could I convert as much of that traffic as possible
into sales. Carlos Lupez opened my eyes to how making small change can lead to huge
results—optimizing my website conversion. So, Massive traffic + your own irresistible
offer = $1M is a matter of months.
On the other hand a $1M business with the wrong customers is a landmine just waiting to
explode.
Finally, I was ready to venture into new territories and so started Maximum Leverage: This
time I was in the position to chose my customers by price and type of product purchase
and so built Maximum Leverage into a $1M in five and half months! So: the right
customers and the right traffic = $1M twice as fast .
You see if you increase the quality of customers you attract by price or category of
purchase you’ll grow faster, create more stability and build a real business.
It was during these glory days that I moves to Maui, Hawaii with my fiancée Kim and
made the crippling mistake of depending on sources of traffic that were totally outside of
my control.
This mistake brought me close to declaring bankruptcy only to have the IRS breathing
down my neck as the icing on the cake.
I’ve given you this quick tour of my journey showing you the major turns and lessons for
a very important reason: I want you to understand that I speak from experience and I
know the pitfalls, so you don’t have to re-invent the wheel of success.
"THE BIGGER LESSON"
The chart above illustrates what I call the critical path to success and it contains a very
important lesson which basically summarizes all the other lessons I’ve share with you so
far.
If you take the horizontal “High Probability To Success” path at the top we can work
backwards from the “goal” and deconstruct success.
So this means that if you want to reach your goal then you need a list, and in order to get a
list you need traffic, which means you need cashflow and finally back to your desire for
success.
Now when you compare this to the vertical path which leads to failure you can see that an
extra step “opportunity” was missing from the success path. How is that?
Well, let me explain.
"The ‘Opportunity Trap’"
Now we already said that this path is the one taken by 97% of the people coming online
trying to start a business, so both paths start with a “desire”.
And of course you’ll need some money (cashflow) which is normally invested in some
“opportunity” which promises to make you rich.
But soon you realize that any opportunity will need customers so you start driving traffic to
build your business. If you fail to make a profit in a reasonable amount of time you are
now faced with the choices of trying a different opportunity, getting a different traffic
source or trying to improve on the traffic you are already getting.
But whatever choice you make it is always best to build a LIST in the process because you
can market a new opportunity to that customer base again and again.
Now the sticky point on this path to failure is that most people invest so much into the
opportunity and jump around trying the find the best one that their cashflow quickly dries
up, which leads to failure and disappointment.
So most people fail because they run out of money before they start making any at
all.
What’s more, in their frustration they start looking everywhere for solution and
overcomplicate their lives by trying to do more hoping that something would work. But
this only makes the problem worst.
Now usually this person feels that HE or SHE is a failure when they simply made the
CRITICAL mistake of concentrating on the one factor that was NOT necessary for
success—the opportunity. On the other hand the ultimate asset which leads to success is
your list—your subscribers.
"Why Your List Is
The Ultimate Asset"
When you have a subscriber list you have complete control, and remove virtually all
complexity.
If all it takes for you to earn revenue in your business is to send an email to your list, and
you get to choose that email, then you’ve put yourself in the position of ultimate power .
It’s just the shortest path to creating revenue if you build a list of the right prospects and
develop the right relationship with them.
In my study of the marketplace, I would realize that the successful people would hit the
bull’s-eye no matter what opportunity they joined. By now you should realize that their
secret weapon was their list of faithful subscribers.
But there was another anomaly that I found interesting, because when you asked these
people to explain the reason for their success, they either couldn’t or would just relate the
first product or opportunity that brought them success.
The truth is, MOST people who are “successful” don’t know why they are successful.
They know surface level triggers that they believe are the “REASON” for their abnormal
results, but to share those as if they were the REASON itself is dangerous, inaccurate, and
many times leads to a LOT of confusion.
So when their students or followers try to repeat their success, they don’t get the same
results.
When times got tough for me I spent a LOT of time thinking about my own path to
a million-dollar business. For some time, I had created a very high level of success, and
so I started to ask myself questions like: “How did I actually arrive at success?” “How
repeatable is that process?”
And ...
“The Answer Shocked Me!”
What I realized shocked me, and NOT in a positive sense. I noticed that although many
of the steps I took anyone could copy, like buying an eBook, there were several things that
had to happen for me to reach a million+ business that I know most people would not do.
For instance, going to the Underground Online Seminar, and then deciding to spend $10k
for a one-day consultation with absolutely nothing to back this purchase. The likelihood of
anyone doing that is extremely low.
And, if it’s almost impossible for a person to reproduce the actions that made me
successful, then it’s highly unlikely for me to reproduce my success in others, yet I have
several students who have made $1M, $10M and even over $100M, so… how?
This is where everything goes haywire. Because the expert will give you a surface level
answer that they believe to be the truth, but isn’t the most accurate.
To find the answer you have to look FAR below the surface to examine what separates
those who succeed from those who don’t. And to succeed in an online business you
MUST reach and surpass one threshold.
“The Point of Positive Leverage”
I call this threshold the “Point Of Positive Leverage”--the point at which everything in their
business goes from negative to positive growth.
That’s why, they can send an email and get 5,000 people to go anywhere they want.
That’s why no matter what business opportunity they choose they will ALWAYS make
money.
And once you do realize this IS the “key” to success and you look at their successes from
that standpoint, then you see one more very important and powerful trend. The faster they
can reach the point, the quicker they would succeed. And to do this they must convert their
opportunity into money—what I call monetization.
If speed to monetization determines how quickly you reach the point of “true leverage”,
then if we look at business opportunities from that standpoint, we see that they are quite
complex and that point alone is incredibly insightful.
Most people never stop to evaluate their goal-reaching strategies. If their goal is to create
six figure income, then trying to achieve this goal solely on a business opportunity will be
an unnecessarily complex task, and therefore a challenging process.
When these people don’t achieve their goals, they blame it on themselves and then
they start to believe they don’t deserve to succeed.
Every single struggle you've faced up until this point is the EXACT reason you ARE going
to succeed. It’s just that you have been fighting the wrong battles—placing all your creative
energies and money into factors that don’t bring lasting results. You’ll see what I mean
soon.
“To Solve A Problem,
Go To The Source”
We already saw from the “Critical Path Analysis” chart that in order to succeed in your
online business you MUST have a list. If we’re to build a list, then we MUST have a
stable and consistent stream of quality traffic.
And in order to ensure a stable and consistent stream of quality traffic, you must have a
stable and constant stream of cashflow to support it.
In summary: Cashflow => Traffic => List
With a decent cashflow we can then get far past the “true point of leverage” towards
creating at least a 6-figure business. Recall that creating cash flow does NOT mean
depending a biz opp.
In fact, I wouldn’t suggest you don't do this unless you can do both simultaneously and
without interference.
So let’s start at the beginning...
"First Goal: Create
Consistent, Stable Cash Flow"
A key question to ask when you want to know how to create consistent cash flow is “what
is the foundation of your marketplace which also has a tangible value and cost to it?”
Your answer to this question will be the most certain source of consistent cash flow. If you
tap into this product or service, then you become, more than desired, but necessary. Now
you don’t have to worry about making a sale.
Further, consider your marketplace and ask yourself, who are the best customers, and
what MUST they have to survive?
If this overlaps with the first criteria, then you’ve got an ideal place to enter the
marketplace to create consistent cash flow.
For my marketplace the answer to that question was QUALITY TRAFFIC. This was the
epiphany that led me to opening my own advertising agency:

Now I earlier realized that I already had diversified traffic sources, but I lacked control
over those sources. That is why Google could have shut me down and I could do nothing
about it but weep.
All the big business advertisers keep you at their whims and fancies and can change rules at
will to keep you out of the game. But I had advertisers that religiously bought ads from
me once I opened for business.
What’s more, I wasn’t going to ever deny them access. Why? Because we had a personal
relationship. They meant more than just $dollar signs to me.
So rather than depending on the big guys such as Google, Bing and Facebook, I realized I
could bring together enough small list publishers and create stability as a group for our own
industry.
Presently we are close to 400 of the best online email traffic providers. We deliver
hundreds of thousands of high quality email visitors per month, producing sales results like

Now this program led to the birth of a new idea. What if I could help other entrepreneurs
create their own list publishing business?
I threw this idea out to an “experimental” batch of people who were interested in starting
an online business and to my utter amazement we had a 100% success rate!
In other words, every single customer made a profit. Some even breaking the $100,000 per
year barrier all because of this simple little idea. Here’s an example:

“How To Build A
$100K List Publishing Business?”
The simple formula below shows how we can calculate the amount of clicks you would
need to reach an annual income of $100,000 in your list publishing business.
Again, we start with the goal and work backwards.
How? We simply divide the annual income ($100,000) by the number of days in the
year (365) to get the daily income and divide the results by the average cost per click
($0.40).
The results gives us the number of clicks per day, and we divide this by 2 considering an
email blast twice per day.
So we would need 343 clicks for each email broadcast (685 clicks per day) and with a
click rate of 0.03, you’ll need a list of 11,433 to get that number of clicks. To build this
size list, considering an opt-in rate of 30%, you’ll need 38,110 clicks to your page. This
gives us a number to aim for.
Now, this is the SIMPLEST version of the math. It doesn’t include unsubscribes, bounce,
etc and it assumes you can sell those clicks.
So you’ll need buyers of course, but don’t forget this shouldn’t be too hard because traffic
buyers are the BEST buyers in the market.
Does this model work? Absolutely, and when you see just how well, it’s going to BLOW
your mind son!

Here’s a little story behind this launch.
I ran a $175 solo ad with AnthonyTilley.com and was pleasantly surprised by the $1,098
return. After sharing this result on a webinar, Anthony got flooded with request for solo

It was around the year 2010-11. My business was growing by leaps and bounds so I flew to Maui with my queen, Kim, and decided to set up residence there—talk about a paradise! But a terrible case of Murphy’s law—if anything can go wrong it will—was about to hit me over the head. Google was about to pee on my party and plummet my business from making $128,000 plus per month to $15,000 per month! Yes, along with a lot of other marketers, Google Adwords had dropped me without remedy and the main source of my traffic was now a dessert dry land. Personal depression quickly set in that couldn’t be wiped away by any number of bottles of beer or cigarettes I desperately gulped down. We finally decided to return to my hometown Washington, DC, with my dreams of paradise almost crushed and my business on the brink of declaring bankruptcy … And it was about to get worst … “Thank God For The IRS!” Not long after returning to DC I received an initial audit notification from the IRS. About 8 days after this I got a new letter in the mail from Uncle Sam saying: “[URGENT] You Owe The IRS $553,861. Payment Due August 30th, 2011”. I guess I didn’t schedule my little audit appointment fast enough for them. The next day I headed over to my CPA’s office and met with him for 1 hour and 44 minutes (that’s what the $735 bill said) signed over power of attorney to him for my first audit ever. By later that day he had straightened things out and set up our August 30th audit. I felt “some” relief, but I knew I had a HUGE task ahead of me. How huge? Well, there was a ton of receipts to find and print—my $300 Kinko’s printing bill would give you an idea.
  • 16. Needless to say, when the dust had all settled it turned out that I had owed the IRS over $983,000! Talk about poor timing. Just when my business was drying up because of a lack of a reliable source of quality traffic, I now had the IRS on my back. I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out. It almost destroyed me. The ONE thing I wanted to achieve was long term stability, and the most recent chain of events left me staring a $1M audit in the face. And this had everything to do with ONE thing … "TRAFFIC!" If I couldn’t find a stable source of traffic to support my business, then everything I had been through would have been for naught. Now they say there is always a silver lining behind every dark cloud, but this cloud had golden one. You’d think this came from a Hollywood movie script but life is often stranger than fiction. Because while I was sitting in my office thinking through everything I just shared with you, Kim brought me the answer I was searching for in the form of an invoice. This was from a company that I paid $29,000 in 2008 and $32,000 the following year. As soon as I saw this piece of paper, inspiration hit me like a bolt of lightning! I had spent tens of thousands of dollars with this company since the first year I came online, without giving it a second thought. Yet this was more money than I had spent on any marketing course, training or coaching. What’s more, while my business had changed and failed several times (to the point where I had to reinvent it from the ground up), this company that I ‘gave’ well over $100k to, hadn’t changed at all. Soon I was on my feet, with tears in my eyes, pacing back and forth in my office. My mind started racing with all kinds of new possibilities: · What if I could be the next “ArcaMax” for the home business marketplace? · What if I could attract customers I never could have before? · Maybe I could open my business to a new source of revenue that wouldn’t compete with, but add, to everything I was already doing. · If I could pull this off, maybe … just maybe, I could pay off my IRS tax bill quicker than I ever thought possible. · If I could be like Arcamax, all I had to do was send out an email make PURE profit, and as my newsletter became more popular, the more advertising revenue I’d make.   • 17. still, the only ‘work’ involved would be sending one email to my mailing list! "Why Wasn't This Done Before?" But then came the negative thoughts: “Why hadn’t I seen anyone else in my market doing this? Was I missing something? Could this be something that will destroy what I already had?” I almost didn’t try this new approach, but a voice deep inside said, “You’ve got nothing to lose, just try it”. So I clenched my teeth, sent a short email to my list that night, and I was open for business! Within 24 hours I had made two, $7,500 sales for solo ads to my newsletter subscribers. This was much easier money than I’d ever made selling a $97 eBook. By now I knew I had struck a gold mine. As the week came to and end, 3 more $7,500 sales came in and within 2 months my business had ballooned from almost nonexistence to over $200,000 per month … then $300,000. And it’s been like that ever since. This eliminated any and all issues I had with the IRS and gave me a breakthrough idea for our industry. When I realized that being the source of traffic was the ULTIMATE way to create the MOST stable business, the answer of where to find stable traffic followed naturally. Now I had traffic, leads, stability and income. What surprised me the MOST though, was that every single person I shared this little idea with, for them the effect was just as dramatic… 404. Whelp...this sucks The page you were looking for was not found. Search It’s hard to believe, but my first batch of customers all succeeded—my program had a whopping 100% success rate. “Why So Many Online Businesses Fail?” I’ve been in the home-based business industry for close to a decade now and I’ve seen the excitement of starting a new business change into despair, confusion and finally failure for many entrepreneurs. Now I’m not talking here about tire-kickers who are just “trying to make extra buck online”. But serious business owners who attended seminars, bought courses from the experts, invested in traffic generation, sign up for all the marketing newsletters, paid coaches ... I mean, they took their business seriously and yet they failed.
  • 18. Depending on who you ask about the reasons for the popularly quoted “97% failure rate for startup businesses” you’ll get a different answer. The Small Business Association places lack of business experience, poor planning and under capitalization as top reasons for failure. Industry experts would tell you that the reason is that “you need whatever they are selling”. And I’m all for investing in your marketing education and tools because I’ve spent close to $1M on my education—seminars, personal coaching, courses, marketing books—but experience taught me that their reasons given for failure are all wrong. “It’s Not What You Think” The single biggest reason for most online businesses failure is not what you think. And once you wake up to this reality, your entire paradigm is going to change as you realize that it’s not your fault. Now of course I realize this is a bold claim I’m making, but it doesn’t come from an article I read online, but from years of doing and studying this market. So I’ve paid my dues to the marketing experts and in the school of hard knocks. And I’m about to give you the lessons I learned here for free. One of the very first product I invested in as an online entrepreneur that brought me some measure of success was called Google Cash. This product taught you how to set up PPC ads using Google Adwords which sent traffic to affiliate sites from which you made a commission on each sale. The beauty about this system was once it was set up, you did nothing afterwards but pay your PPC bill and hopefully make a profit on the other end. It was a simple arbitrage system—you bought traffic and with the hope of making a profit from that traffic. "Lessons From The Trenches" I learned a quick lesson from the seller because the purchase was automated so he got the sale without talking to me first. He effortlessly turned my curiosity and desire into money. I also learned a lesson about traffic and making money: Right traffic + the right offer = effortless income. It’s the magic of monetization Then I spent top dollars to purchase leads from a source where I had no idea how the leads were generated. Because I had no solid selling experience I almost went broke trying to sell to these leads. I quickly discovered that the wrong offer plus the wrong traffic = going broke fast. I immediately set about to fill in this gap in my experience by joining Success University. I also took control of THE most important factor that would lead to results--traffic generation. Coupled with this new program, the traffic generation started producing results and I quickly realized that: Targeted email traffic + irresistible offer = instant conversions "Working Less And Getting More" It was not hard for me see that if I reduced my activities to just what works, remove the constraints and increase control over the critical variables I could now leverage these efforts into incredible success. But when a small working idea can be carried by many, the returns are bigger than the sum of each individual effort. They call this the principle of synergy. Now it was time for me to create my first product, an ebook I sold for $97, and within months I was at six figures. This changed my mindset right away from exchanging time for money to working once and getting repeated sales on that same product. Now I had proved to myself that: Your own product + targeted traffic = a six figure income. I was able to invest this money I was now making into a high ROI product and quickly get out of debt. The more money I was able to keep, the faster I was able to move up the income scale. If you want to make millions, then the shortest path is to learn from those who is already doing it. At a Yanik Silver’s Underground Seminar I picked up the little tip of emailing my list twice per day instead of once. I was first timid about this approach, but this simple change doubled my email traffic and my business. "Diversify Or Die!" Then I discovered (from a $10,000 coaching session I grudgingly paid for) that if I didn’t diversify my source of traffic, my business would be vulnerable and eventually die. As I mentioned before, I learned that lesson the hard way when Google dropped me. You see, 10 “good” sources of traffic is better than one “super” source. Diversify or die. The next big question for me was how could I convert as much of that traffic as possible into sales. Carlos Lupez opened my eyes to how making small change can lead to huge results—optimizing my website conversion. So, Massive traffic + your own irresistible offer = $1M is a matter of months. On the other hand a $1M business with the wrong customers is a landmine just waiting to explode. Finally, I was ready to venture into new territories and so started Maximum Leverage: This time I was in the position to chose my customers by price and type of product purchase and so built Maximum Leverage into a $1M in five and half months! So: the right customers and the right traffic = $1M twice as fast . It was during these glory days that I moves to Maui, Hawaii with my fiancée Kim and made the crippling mistake of depending on sources of traffic that were totally outside of my control. This mistake brought me close to declaring bankruptcy only to have the IRS breathing down my neck as the icing on the cake. So this means that if you want to reach your goal then you need a list, and in order to get a list you need traffic, which means you need cashflow and finally back to your desire for success. Now when you compare this to the vertical path which leads to failure you can see that an extra step “opportunity” was missing from the success path. How is that? Well, let me explain. "The ‘Opportunity Trap’" Now we already said that this path is the one taken by 97% of the people coming online trying to start a business, so both paths start with a “desire”. And of course you’ll need some money (cashflow) which is normally invested in some “opportunity” which promises to make you rich. But soon you realize that any opportunity will need customers so you start driving traffic to build your business. If you fail to make a profit in a reasonable amount of time you are now faced with the choices of trying a different opportunity, getting a different traffic source or trying to improve on the traffic you are already getting.

Now the sticky point on this path to failure is that most people invest so much into the opportunity and jump around trying the find the best one that their cashflow quickly dries up, which leads to failure and disappointment. So most people fail because they run out of money before they start making any at all. What’s more, in their frustration they start looking everywhere for solution and overcomplicate their lives by trying to do more hoping that something would work. But this only makes the problem worst. Now usually this person feels that HE or SHE is a failure when they simply made the CRITICAL mistake of concentrating on the one factor that was NOT necessary for success—the opportunity. On the other hand the ultimate asset which leads to success is your list—your subscribers. When times got tough for me I spent a LOT of time thinking about my own path to a million-dollar business. For some time, I had created a very high level of success, and so I started to ask myself questions like: “How did I actually arrive at success?” “How repeatable is that process?” And ... “The Answer Shocked Me!” What I realized shocked me, and NOT in a positive sense. I noticed that although many of the steps I took anyone could copy, like buying an eBook, there were several things that had to happen for me to reach a million+ business that I know most people would not do. To find the answer you have to look FAR below the surface to examine what separates those who succeed from those who don’t. And to succeed in an online business you MUST reach and surpass one threshold. “The Point of Positive Leverage” I call this threshold the “Point Of Positive Leverage”--the point at which everything in their business goes from negative to positive growth. And once you do realize this IS the “key” to success and you look at their successes from that standpoint, then you see one more very important and powerful trend. The faster they can reach the point, the quicker they would succeed. And to do this they must convert their opportunity into money—what I call monetization. If speed to monetization determines how quickly you reach the point of “true leverage”, then if we look at business opportunities from that standpoint, we see that they are quite complex and that point alone is incredibly insightful. Most people never stop to evaluate their goal-reaching strategies. If their goal is to create six figure income, then trying to achieve this goal solely on a business opportunity will be an unnecessarily complex task, and therefore a challenging process. When these people don’t achieve their goals, they blame it on themselves and then they start to believe they don’t deserve to succeed. Every single struggle you've faced up until this point is the EXACT reason you ARE going to succeed. It’s just that you have been fighting the wrong battles—placing all your creative energies and money into factors that don’t bring lasting results. You’ll see what I mean soon. “To Solve A Problem, Go To The Source” We already saw from the “Critical Path Analysis” chart that in order to succeed in your online business you MUST have a list. If we’re to build a list, then we MUST have a stable and consistent stream of quality traffic. And in order to ensure a stable and consistent stream of quality traffic, you must have a stable and constant stream of cashflow to support it. In summary: Cashflow => Traffic => List With a decent cashflow we can then get far past the “true point of leverage” towards creating at least a 6-figure business. Recall that creating cash flow does NOT mean depending a biz opp. In fact, I wouldn’t suggest you don't do this unless you can do both simultaneously and without interference. So let’s start at the beginning...

"First Goal: Create Consistent, Stable Cash Flow" A key question to ask when you want to know how to create consistent cash flow is “what is the foundation of your marketplace which also has a tangible value and cost to it?” Your answer to this question will be the most certain source of consistent cash flow. If you tap into this product or service, then you become, more than desired, but necessary. Now you don’t have to worry about making a sale. Further, consider your marketplace and ask yourself, who are the best customers, and what MUST they have to survive? If this overlaps with the first criteria, then you’ve got an ideal place to enter the marketplace to create consistent cash flow. For my marketplace the answer to that question was QUALITY TRAFFIC.
