Translocality in Key Ideological and Theoretical Underpinnings
1.
2. INTRODUCTION
There is yet a written history of the Center for
Kapampangan Studies since its inception in 2001 at the Holy
Angel University.
Thus this paper, an attempt to document the ambivalence of
local and national discourse in knowledge production
within the purview of Philippine Studies.
3. INTRODUCTION
From its impetus of establishment of a research center, HAU
added pretty much its own leanings and assumptions what
a research should be.
As compared to other local studies which is mainly
comprised of shelves, tables and researchers, CKS attempted
to come up with something else.
From a spark to flicker then a wildfire, a steady flame to
permeate the foundation of CKS.
4. RELATIONS, CONNECTIONS AND
DIVERGENCE
Apart from the prodding from Batiuan Foundation and the
startup, CKS organized a gathering of Kapampangan
Studies scholars within and without Pampanga.
5. RELATIONS, CONNECTIONS AND
DIVERGENCE
The First International Conference on Kapampangan Studies
was unprecedented collaboration
National Historical Institute,
Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas
(Department of Filipino Language and Philippine
Literature), University of the Philippines Diliman College of
Arts and Letters and
Batiauan Foundation.
8. Selected Publications from Alaya Research
Journal and Singsing Magazine
CKS produces a couple of regular publications with
consistency and diversity of topics. Alaya: Kapampangan
Research Journal is published by the Juan D. Nepomuceno
Center for Kapampangan Studies, Holy Angel University.
9. Documentation of
Practices
CKS archives contain materials on Pampanga and about
Kapampangan Studies.
Moreover, the Center also boasts of the Ambeth Ocampo
Filipiniana Collection
the CKS library and archives also houses the Luther Parker
Collection on Pampanga.
Apart from tactile media, the CKS library and archives also
has personal collections of poets, scholars and historical
figures along with digital file of old photographs, video
footage, audio recording.
11. Interface and Platforms
CKS on Language: C,K and Kulitan
CKS on local heroes, saints, families and history
What is so translocal about this perspective is the call for a
Cultural Autonomy. For the CKS as manifested in their
publications, knowledge production and use of different
media, there is no Filipino culture yet and there’s no Filipino
nation yet.
