India mars mission

2. MARS ORBITER MISSION
 The MARS orbiter mission called “ MANGALYAAN” is INDIA’s
first mission to MARS by ISRO
It is said to be lift from first launch pad at ‘SRIHARIKOTA’ ,AP
If successful ISRO would become the fourth space agency to reach MARS
after ROSCOSMOS , NASA and ESA.

3. BACKGROUND
 The Govt of INDIA approved the project in 3rd august
2012
 The total project cost up to US $ 69 M
 The space craft structure and hardware is similar to
CHANDRAYAN 1

5. OBJECTIVES
 Main objective is to develop the technology for
design , panning , management and operation of
interplanetary mission
Launching , orbital transfer
 study the mars atmosphere and takes needed photos

6. FEATURES
 The launching vehicle in the mission is “PSLV –C25”
 it carry a mass of 15 kg
 five instruments are used for study Martian surface
atmosphere and mineralogy

7. After leaving the earth surface the space craft will cruise in deep
Space for about 10 months and will enter Martian orbit in September 201 4
The satellite will seek to reveal whether there is METHANE on the red planet
Methane sensor will help to detect it

8. TRACKING
The Indian deep space network will perform navigation and tracking
