1. How does my logo effect
My website design?
As you know, your logo is a very important piece of your brand. Logo sets the
tone of how your business is presented in every situation. Your logo sets the tone
of how you market your business from business cards, all the way to your
website. I’m going to give you a few tips to think about before you create your
logo or if you’re thinking about getting your logo redesigned.
Color Scheme
The colors you choose for your logo are very important because it sets the
direction for every design and every advertisement developed. I guess the next
question is how do I choose the right colors? That totally depends on what
emotion you want to provoke when someone sees it? What type of industry
you’re in? How serious do you want the tone to be? How many colors should I
have in my logo? You have to ask yourself all these questions and think about
the worst-case scenario.
When we design a logo we think about colors and about how much it would cost
to print this logo on a t-shirt. Or how much will it cost to get this stitched on
company apparel. Last final question. How will this effect the website design?
Font Choice
Font choice is the most important part of the process. Poor font choice throws
everything off and also dictates how the website will flow. Believe or not, but
fonts strikes emotions along with the color of the font. Also it can confuse the
viewer. It’s the difference between a round font vs. a pointy font known as Sans
SERIF font. Here is an example of a Serif font vs. San Serif McDonalds
vs. MCDONALDS. Even though both of those fonts are
spelled the exact same way they both give off different emotions.
Now let try adding color to each logo McDonalds vs.
MCDONALDS. Now we have provoked the emotion to different
place with each font and color.
2. The Effects On the Website Design
I’m going to give you 2 examples of logos that are part of the same industry, but
their logos set a different tone of how each website should be designed. It was
the difference between 1 website being relaxed cool and clean and another
website being very up beat and semi busy, but still clean.
Your goal for a website and a logo is to be simple as possible. You want to get
your point across immediately. I’m not saying that if your company is football
related that your logo has to have a football. Keep this in mind when creating
your logo. Be creative, but simple at the same time. You don’t want anyone to get
on your website and ask, “What’s going on here?”
Remember at the end of the day your logo makes the biggest difference between
creating a great simple brand or not have a brand to recognize at all. Don’t over
think it. You want your customer to instantly get what your business offers.
Simplicity is key in every situation. Which is the reason why your bigger brands
are so successful. They designers understood that overdoing it only means over
explaining.
