3. Green computing is the environmentally
responsible use of computer and related
resources.
The study and practice of designing,
manufacturing, using, and disposing of
computers, servers, and associated
subsystems efficiently and effectively with no
impact on the environment.
4. One of the first manufacture of the green
computing movement(EPA) was the launch of
energy star in 1992.
The term GREEN COMPUTING was coined
shortly after energy star began.
Energy Star applied to products like computer
monitors, televisions sets and temperature control
devices like refrigerators, air conditioners, and
similar items.
6. Leaving the computer on when not in
use(CPU) and it can consume power, screen
savers consume power.
As we know that plastic is a hazardous
material, but the electronic waste(E-Waste) is
more hazardous than the plastic.
7. P
How many of you print out your emails or
meeting agendas.
Printing out partial drafts.
For a “paperless” society, we tend to use more
paper today than before computer-prevalence.
8. E-Waste: After the disposal of electronic
waste(E-Waste) it produces pollution to the
environment ultimately that makes toxicity.
Toxicity: There are toxic chemicals used in the
manufacturing of computer and components
10. Virtualization: Duplicating hardware with software.
Realizing a piece of hardware such as web server or file server
in software rather than hardware writing a program that does the
same exact thing as a piece of hardware.
Effect of Virtualization:
255 Servers -> 22 Servers only
This has resulted in a saving of almost 50-70% of energy can be
saved from Virtualization

A power supply is an internal hardware component that supplies
component in a hardware with power.
A power supply converts a 110-115 or 220-230 volt alternating current(AC)
into a steady low-voltage direct current (DC).
Power supplies include simplicity, relaibility, low noise levels and low cost.
12. V
A fast GPU may be the largest power consumer in a computer
Energy efficient display option include:
No video card-use a shared terminal, shared thin client, or
desktop sharing software if display required.
Use motherboard video output-typically low 3d performance and
low power.
Reuse an older video card that uses little power, many do not
require heat sinks or fans. Select a GPU based on average wattage or
performance per watt.
13. Early days, we use Cathode ray tube(CRT) which consumes
high amount of electricity and also it gives heat.
LCD monitors use a cold-cathode fluorescent bulb to provide
for the display. Some newer displays use an array of LED
instead of Fluorescent bulbs.
Light emitting diodes(LEDS), which reduces the amount of
electricity used by the display.
LCD monitors uses three times less when active, and ten
times less energy when in sleep mode.

Blackle is a search-engine site powered by Google Custom
search.
Blackle came into being based on the concept that when a
computer screen is white, presenting an empty word page or
the Google home page, your computer consumes 74W.
When the screen is black it consumes only 59W.
15.
16. Equipment power density/Power and cooling capacities.
Increase in energy requirements for data centers and growing
energy cost.
Control on increasing requirements of heat removing equipment,
which increases because of increase in total power consumption
by IT equipments.
Equipment Life cycle management- Cradle to Grave.
Disposal of Electronic Wastes.
17. Reduces the amount of pollutants in the surroundings.
It saves the power consumption and reduces the
amount of heat produced from the electronics.
It reduces the burden on paper industry.
Encourages the use of Renewable Resources.
Promotes effective utilization of natural resources.
18. GREEN USE:
Reducing the energy consumption of computers and other information
systems.
GREEN DISPOSAL:
Reduction of waste, reuse and refurbishment of hardware and
recycling of out of use peripherals and other items.
GREEN DESIGN:
Designing energy-efficient and environmentally sound components,
computers,servers,cooling equipment and data centers.
GREEN MANUFACTURING:
Manufacturing electronic components, computers and other
subsystems with minimal impact on the environment.
19. The green technology doesn’t include green computing only but also focuses on the
components used in the computer.
As, energy star is used nowadays focuses on the computer does not affect the
environment.
Green computing represents a responsible way to address the issue of global warming.
By adopting green computing practices, business leaders can contribute positively to
environmental stewardship and protect the environment while also reducing energy and
paper costs.
Nowadays, every computer manufacturing company is focusing on the green IT concept.
However, this reality does at least mean that a widespread mind set already exists for
both adapting to and paying money for new computer hardware on a regular basis.
