The opening sequence of Anuvahood establishes the film's setting and themes through visual and audio cues. Shots of the main character smoking and wearing a hoodie introduce him as a "gangsta" figure. The camera cuts between him and two other characters engaged in an aggressive conversation using slang. Their different ethnicities imply a lack of unity. Ambient music plays slowly under the dialogue to draw the audience in. Establishing shots of council flats and parks complete the portrayal of an urban crime genre.

1. Anuvahood
I chose to analyse the opening/title sequence
section of Anuvahood – a spoof comedy
interpretation of the popular Adulthood and
Kidulthood. I personally feel that the way this
opening is put across to the audience works
really well because it is able to establish not only
the setting of the film but it also picks up upon
themes and characteristics within certain people.

2. The opening shot starts with
an extreme close up of the
main character kay. There is
an action code which shows
him smoking which then will
make the audience realise
that he is a typical gangsta
person. We also can see he is
wearing his hood up which is
an enigma code and creates a

3. The camera cuts between
shots as they are speaking.
It shows 2 black men and 1
white this could show that
they are not on the same side
as there not the same skin
colour. Also slang is used to
show that these guys are bad,
this is mainly used by teens on
the streets. The conversation
between them seems
aggressive and shows us they
are going to do something
bad.

4. Sound and setting
The music in the in the background is slow as
they are having the conversation. This makes the
audience want to listen more to the
conversation.

and then it shows some council flats and parks
typical place where there will be gangstas.
