WORK EXPERIENCE
High School Exchange - Camp Teacher/ Coordinator August 2015
I was hired to help acclimate incoming exchange students to life in the US before they were
sent to their respective new/ temporary homes. I taught American: law, cultural norms, etiquette,
and constructive problem solving to more than 100 jet-lagged foreign teenagers, straight off of their
planes, to help prepare them for life here. I planned and supervised a day long walking/ subway
tour through the busiest parts of New York City for a group of 22 students, mere days after they
arrived in this country. I coached the last place volleyball team to come just 3 points shy of winning
the tournament by carefully observing and identifying the strengths and capacities of a large group
of volunteers. I was recruited to perform in 2 parts of their talent show. I was also put in a dunk
tank, and a dance competition. I carried suitcases heavier than the people who packed them, up
multiple flights of steps until 4:30 in the morning, several days running, then woke up at 6 am to
prepare for classes. I was concerned with the difficulty the Asian students were having integrating
with the Europeans, and successfully encouraged them to bond with one another. It was exciting,
interesting, and enjoyable, despite the 2 weeks of 18+ hour days.
Freelance Illustrator 10/2012 - Present
I interview clients to determine their needs and specific expectations, negotiate equitable
rates - based on the scale, subject matter, and level of detail, then I produce the art they've
requested for review, making any necessary modifications, and ensuring all work is completed
before the deadlines. Sample work: http://imgur.com/a/RiEL1#0
Junior High and Elementary School Assistant Language Teacher:
 At the Borderlink Corporation 10/2010 – 8/2012
Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan
 At the RCS Corporation 4/2004 - 7/2007
Nagano and Saitama Prefectures, Japan
I taught English at a number of elementary and junior high schools in different parts of
Japan. One small town had me singlehandedly plan and execute their entire elementary school
English program for them, to great success. On a day to day basis, I worked with the native
Japanese teachers to plan and teach lessons to best keep their students interested and involved
in classes. This required teaching plans with contingencies in place to suit changing
circumstances and the needs of individual classes. I taught independently and in tandem with
other teachers, as circumstances dictated.
I also participated in marathons, sport and music festivals, special needs classes, speech
contest practice and judging, and assorted after school activities, which gave the students more
opportunities to interact with foreign people. I was always well-regarded for my creative ways of
making English classes fun and interesting, for my ability to simplify material, for making artistically
advanced teaching aids quickly, and for my willingness to help the other staff and students.
English Conversation Teacher:
 At the Kennedy English School 10/2008 - 9/2010
Kinko-Cho, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan
 At the Wing Institute 7/2007 - 6/2008
Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
 At the Nova Group 2/2002 - 2/2004
Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
At the Nova group, I was a member of an international team of instructors, teaching
English to a variety of people age 3 through 87. I was promoted to Voice Room Coordinator
during my first year, making me responsible for its smooth operation. I helped to boost
attendance, by introducing a variety of special topic days. I assisted the Japanese staff in
communicating with the other foreign instructors. I also helped to boost enrollment by producing
promotional material, and by performing demonstration lessons for prospective new students.
At the Wing Institute, I taught English to 22 groups of children and adults in 8 different
cities without supervision. I was rated very highly in the company's student survey for my:
competence, professionalism, and likability, and I saw a lot of improvement in both my student's
confidence, and English abilities in the time I had this job.
At the Kennedy English School, I tutored High school and Junior high school students in
their English courses and helped them prepare for upcoming tests. I taught conversation classes
for adults in the evenings, large groups of preschool children in the mornings, and smaller groups
of elementary school students in the afternoons. When the owners were away on vacation, I was
left to run the school for them.
