Water pollution is the contamination of water sources by substances that make water unusable for drinking and other activities. Pollutants include chemicals, trash, bacteria, and parasites, which can seep from land into underground streams and eventually oceans. Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air from sources like car emissions, factory chemicals, dust, pollen, and mold, including the gas ozone, which forms smog in cities. Some air pollutants are poisonous.
