A Current Research Information System, usually known as a “CRIS”, is a system designed to help with the information management of research activity at an institution. The systems provide a common approach to organising data such that they can be used for many purposes, including support for evaluation of research, support for research assessment, compliance management and to assist in the promotion and access to the outcomes of research. CRIS also aim to provide a ‘one stop shop’ of information used for staff CVs and other researcher profiles. This webinar will provide a brief and general overview of a CRIS and describe how such a system is being used at the University of Edinburgh.

Spending the time to create a central organized resource for Acquisitions information greatly improves the ability of users to find information efficiently. This translates into more time for staff to do their work and greater satisfaction overall. So how can we create a better platform for Acquisitions information? After looking at the landscape of knowledge management tools in the Stanford Libraries Acquisitions department, I identified structure, linking, multimedia, and personality as qualities that were needed in a new resource. Focusing on these four methods of presenting information allowed us to create a resource that is efficient and pleasing to use. As the resource evolved, we found three major categories of information to manage: staff, management, and outreach from Acquisitions to other groups.

Presented at Open Repositories 2015. This presentation highlights results from a survey that traces institutions’ motivations for migrating from one DAMS to another. It discuses themes and features desired in future DAMS, outlining specific topical areas that will inform future system and work flow development, as well as governing body/vendor relations. The presentation also discusses preliminary reflections on the comparison between initial system selection, and requirements for selecting and migrating to a new system. The researchers conclude the presentation by reviewing lessons learned from the research methodology as well as discussing future areas of research related to this study.

Dr Altman's talk summarizes the lifecycle of research attribution, with special attention to person identifiers and contributor roles. The talk describes and discusses ORCID’s new “collect-and-connect” program, and the CASRAI CRediT contributor taxonomy as exemplars of emerging good practice. We close by describing how identifiers are being incorporated into a broader range of scholarly outputs, such as software.

To choose suitable resources for personal competence development in the vast amount of open educational resources is a challenging task for a learner. Starting with a needs analysis of lifelong learners and learning designers we introduce two wayfinding services that are currently researched and developed in the framework of the Integrated Project TENCompetence. Then we discuss the role of these services to support learners in finding and selecting open educational resources and finally we give an outlook on future research. Adopting a Constructivist Grounded Theory Method, this thesis conducted in-depth interviews with 57 purposefully selected participants, comprised of practising librarians, researchers, metadata consultants and library users. The interview data was analysed using three stages of iterative data analysis: open coding, focused coding and theoretical coding. The analysis resulted in the emergence of four Core Categories, namely, metadata Enriching, Linking, Openness and Filtering. Further integration of the Core Categories resulted in the emergence of a theory of digital library metadata; The Theory of Metadata Enriching and Filtering. The theory stipulates that metadata that has been enriched, by melding standards-based (a priori) and socially-constructed (post-hoc) metadata, cannot be optimally utilised unless the resulting metadata is contextually and semantically linked to both internal and external information sources. Moreover, in order to exploit the full benefits of such linking, metadata must be made openly accessible, where it can be shared, re-used, mixed and matched, thus reducing metadata duplication. Ultimately, metadata that has been enriched (by linking and being made openly accessible) should be filtered for each user, via a flexible, personalised, and re-configurable interface. The theory provides a holistic framework demonstrating the interdependence between expert curated and socially-constructed metadata, wherein the former helps to structure the latter, whilst the latter provides diversity to the former. This theory also suggests a conceptual shift from the current metadata principle of sufficiency and necessity, which has resulted in metadata simplicity, to the principle of metadata enriching where information objects are described using a multiplicity of users’ perspectives (interpretations). Central to this theory is the consideration of users as pro-active metadata creators rather than mere consumers, whilst librarians are creators of a priori metadata and experts at providing structure, granularity, and interoperability to post-hoc metadata. The theory elegantly delineates metadata functions into two: enriching (metadata content) and filtering (interface). By providing underlying principles, this theory should enable standards-agencies, librarians, and systems developers to better address the changing needs of users as well as to adapt themselves to recent technological advances.

The changing nature of scholarly resources, knowledge access, rising expectations of end users and public services staff asked us to revisit opportunities for academic libraries as gateways, archives, place, buyers, universal digital library infrastructure, etc. If we say that each media type requires new devices, equipment, computing power and others to create, process, manage, publish, and display its content, then the increasingly digital nature of library resources demand similar capability. In the presentation, the answer to meet these challenges facing metadata services lie in 1) treating info as product; 2) providing support for a well-established, ubiquitous, pervasive, reliable, configurable, robust, and public accessible information infrastructure and computing environment, which integrate people, organizations, processes, data, information, and technologies in such a coherent manner that the objectives of a digital library can be performed, measured and controlled at the lowest meaningful and atomic level; 3) providing support for relevant, engaged, and customized information contents and services, which cover all resources, all vocabularies, and all languages to any given user at any time with critical mass in compliance with control objectives and process maturity measures for info systems and enterprise architecture defined by COBIT 5.0, TOGAF 9.0, and leveraged by library-specific IT industry; and 4) empowering the whole brain team using leadership, communication skills, project management, analytical skills, collaboration, and teamwork.

Professional catalogers in an academic library have professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and services to the library, institute, and professional organizations. However, whatever the catalogers do have to be in alignment with strategic directions of the academic library, and contribute to its institutional effectiveness. This presentation uses several projects from Georgia Tech Library as examples to illuminate the subject matter on the role cataloger in the 21st century academic library. It first discusses the role of cataloger in assisting the removal of print collections out of GT Library building and creating a seamless collection with Emory resources in EmTech Library Services Center (LSC). It then discusses the role of cataloger in cataloging and metadata management from the perspectives of resource discovery, data curation, repository services, eResearch archive, and digitization.

While single melodic lines are simpler and more straightforward, they still allow for creativity and emotional expression. Meanwhile, the simultaneous occurrence of multiple melodic lines can create a more intricate and complex musical structure that challenges the listener's ear and engages their attention.

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
