- 2. WHAT IS A LIGAMENT INJURY? Ligaments are tough, flexible fibrous tissue cords that link bones and give support for joints. An uncomfortable stretch or twist can produce a strain injury, even though ligaments are quite strong. They can be torn with enough force, which is the most serious ligament injury.
- 3. STRAINS VS. SPRAINS • Strains – Strains are a twist, pull or tear of a muscle or tendon, commonly referred to as soft tissue. Tendons are the cords of tissue that connect muscles to bones. • Sprains – Sprains are a stretch or tear of a ligament.
