Old-timers recall how, for the premiere of Chandni in 1989, Yash Chopra had stalls selling bangles, parandis and other Punjabi wedding paraphernalia in the foyer, while for crime flick Khalnayak (1993), Subhash Ghai turned the space into a prison – and the turnout was so massive that riot police had to be pulled in. and in 2006, It reopened under the Adlabs aegis, with six screens. Still, it wasn’t enough. Today, more than a decade later, the grand Art Deco cinema house will open its doors to the city’s moviegoers in yet another avatar, as a shiny, glitzy INOX.
