China Animal Husbandry Indepth Research and Investment Forecast Report
Since the founding of New China, Chinese animal husbandry develops rapidly,
and the output value of animal husbandry continues to improve, increasing from
the 3.37 billion Yuan in 1949 to the 20.93 billion Yuan in 1978; in 1990, the
output value of animal husbandry will increase to 196.7 billion Yuan, which is
more than 58 times as many as the output value in 1949, and which is more than
9 times as many as the output value in 1978; until 2010, the output value of
animal husbandry had exceeded 2 trillion Yuan, accounting for 30.04% of
national animal husbandry’s total output value. It can be seen that with the
continuing increase of China animal husbandry’s output value, the position of
animal husbandry in agricultural industry will be somewhat improved. At present,
animal husbandry has become a pillar industry of China agricultural industry and
rural economy, and its large-scale production and industrial management
operation possess unique features; moreover, the regional layout and marketoriented feature are distinctive.
The “Twelfth Five-year” Development Plan for National Animal Husbandry
released by the Ministry of Agriculture pointed out, by 2015, the breeding
proportion of livestock and poultry scale should increase by 10%-15%, and the
animal husbandry output value should account for 36% of gross output value of
agriculture. At the same time, it’s first to propose to give animal husbandry
financial support, encouraging to establish animal husbandry loan guarantee
funds, and guarantee companies if possible, as so to provide financing service
support for breeding processing leading companies. The release of financial
policies is anticipated to relieve capital and size bottlenecks for breeding
enterprises with large-scale production. And the animal husbandry has vast
prospects for development.
Since the reform and opening up, the production basic conditions in China animal

been constantly strengthened. At present, China meat an egg output volumes both
rank the first in the world, and the dairy production output volume ranks the third
in the world. With the increase of output volume, the per capital share of animal
products in China keeps growing. In 1978, the per capital shares of meat, egg and
milk were 9.1 kg, 2.4 kg, and 1.0 kg respectively, while in 2010, they increased to
45.8 kg, 20.7 kg and 26.7 kg respectively, which were 5.0 times, 8.6 times and

26.7 times as many as that of the year of 1978.
At present, the animal products consumption rate of China’s urban residents is
still on the “rise”, especially in the products, like beef and mutton, poultry meat,
liquid milk and dairy products, and aquatic products, which wills also continues
to increase rapidly. The realistic consumption demand for dairy products in rural
areas may appear in years later than that of urban areas, but it has huge potentials
for growth. In general, the animal products for residents’ consumption in China
will enter a steady growth period in the next 15-20 years, China animal
husbandry still has great potentials for development.
