41. When Sachin was 11 years old Ajit introduced him
to the coach Ramkant Achrekar
42. The coach had entered the cricket field at the age of
thirteen.
Sachin too entered the cricket at the age of 13 . This
was their common link.
43. Sachin had never batted in the nets before .
So he was overawed.
Therefore on his first trial he got nervous
and so he didn’t perform well.
44. Knowing the capability of Sachin , Ajit pleaded for an
another opportunity .
He asked Sir to watch Sachin from far.
Finally he agreed to join the camp.
45.
46.
47. Sachin studied in English school in Bandra where no
cricket facilities were provided.
50. When Sachin bunked practise and played insane
games with the colony boys, sir would come to the
melee and spot him out in his scooter .
51. Towards the last fifteen minutes, Achrekar would place a one
rupee coin on top of the stumps and if Sachin managed to avoid
getting out, the coin was his. In this session every bowler in the
camp, would come and bowl to him with some sixty to seventy boys
fielding. It meant that he had to hit every ball along the ground to
survive those intense fifteen minutes.
He used to advise him ‘’Practice hard and see what magic can
transpire’’
52. Sachin‘s dad treat
Sir used to give money to buy vada pav which gave immense
satisfaction when completely drained.
During the thirty minute break, Achrekar would often give Sachin
some money to go and have a Vadapav, a popular Mumbai fast
food.
Unreasonable demand to his father for cocktail made him
realize his parents love.

54. Sachin is one of the greatest cricketers and
batsmen of all time . From a very early age he loved
playing cricket .His father ,brother Ajit and his coach
had influenced a lot in moulding his talents . Sachin
enjoyed playing cricket with his colony friends. He
loved watching cricket on television. While playing
cricket he tried to emulate his favourite players, Sunil
Gavaskar and Viv Richards.
Summary
55. When Sachin was only 11 years old his elder brother
Ajit introduced him with a great player and coach
Mr. Ramakant Archrekar in Shivaji park stadium.
Both, Ramkanth Achrekar and Sachin began playing
cricket at the age of eleven . This was a common link
between them.
56. . He did not have a good impression of Sachin at first. He
thought Sachin was too young to attend the camp.
Knowing that Sachin was performing badly out of
nervousness in the presence of Achrekar Sir . Having
seen Sachin play in the colony streets, Ajit implored sir
to give Sachin one more chance. He wanted Sir to
pretend to go away and watch him bat from a distance .
Finally sir agreed to let him join the camp.
57. Sachin had practice sessions every morning and
evening at Shivaji Park at the end of which he would be
thoroughly exhausted. So he felt that the schedule of the
camp was a rigorous one. Sometimes when Sachin evaded
from practising at the nets, Achrekar would come on his
scooter to take him to the nets. Only a sincere coach would
do it. Achrekar Sir punished Sachin once when he bunked
the daily evening practice. It helped him to practise hard
every day and become a world renowned
58. Sachin’s brother Ajit gave him a note containing some thoughts
about batting. He kept it with him as it served as a very personal
coaching manual. Sachin practised both in the morning and evening
but he had only one set of cricket clothes. So his routine was to wash
and dry them after each session so that he could wear it for .
59. His father allowed Sachin to change his school where
cricket is given more importance. So all his excess
energies were channelled into playing cricket and Sachin
considered this as a safety valve. In order to own the one-
rupee coin kept by Achrekar sir on top of the stumps,
Sachin had to avoid getting out and bat continuously with
some sixty to seventy boys fielding. It taught him how to
concentrate even when physically drained.
60. It also gave him immense
satisfaction. After the
thorough practice in cricket
Sachin had to run two full
circuits of Shivaji Park with
his pads and gloves on. This
routine throughout the
summer holidays helped him
61. . He considered this regular demand as a little
unreasonable. He had not realised that his parents also had
to take care of the needs of his brothers and sister. So his
demand was unreasonable. During the early morning bus
journeys to the practice at Shivaji park Sachin had to stand
inside the bus with the kitbag on his back. He often took the
space of another passenger. So sometimes he was asked
by the conductors to buy two tickets.
62. Sachin Tendulkar is not a man born with silver
spoons in his mouth. Cricket and cricket lovers
especially in India consider Sachin Tendulkar as
a legend but it is hard to believe that his rising
was from a very ordinary family. It was a keen
passion for cricket that Sachin soured to the sky
to shine among the stars. As a child, Sachin had
to overcome many obstacles to become a
cricketer. It helped him to practise hard every
day and become a world renowned
63. Ramakant Achrekar coached young cricketers at Shivaji
Park in Mumbai. Sachin was also coached by him. During
the practice, If he became exhausted, Achrekar would put
a one rupee coin on top of the stumps and the bowler who
dismissed Tendulkar would get the coin. If Tendulkar
passed the whole session without getting dismissed, the
coach would give him the coin. Thus he used to encourage
Sachin at all times and gave him practice thoroughly..
64. Ramakant Achrekar , the mentor looked after all
players really well. During the training session,
Achrekar worked sincerely and gave rigorous
training to everyone in the camp. Had it not been
for Achrekar, Sachin would not be the cricketer. The
coach Achrekar was a strict disciplinarian and did
everything . Therefore he could give the legendory
Sachin Tendulkar.
