The monsoon is a seasonal period of heavy rainfall that occurs in certain tropical areas. The heavy rains can cause severe flooding but are also crucial for agriculture, as they allow crops like rice to grow. Monsoons are caused by seasonal wind patterns that change direction between the ocean and land areas over the course of the year, transporting moisture over hot regions. They bring both benefits in terms of water resources but also risks like disease outbreaks.

2.  At certain times of the year, some areas of the tropics
have a period of torrential rain known as a monsoon.
 The heavy rain can cause severe flooding,some people
rely on the rain for survival.
 In fact, the start of the rainy season is often welcomed
with celebreations.

3.  The word monsoon comes from an Arabic word wich
means “season”.
 It refers to the rainy season and to the seasonal winds
that cause it.
 During the dry season, the land is cooler than the
ocean, and so dry winds blow from the land to the
ocean.

4.  The rainy season occurs when the Sun is almost
directly overhead.
 The land is hotter than the ocean , so moist winds rush
in from the ocean.
 As the winds rise and cool, they shed their moisture as
haeavy rain.

5.  Monsoons ocurr in certain parts of the tropics,
particulary in southeast Asia.
 Monsoon regions have three season – A long cool dry
season, a hot humid season when the land is very dry,
and a rainy season when there are thunderstrorms on
most days.

6.  During the rainy season, it rains very heavily and there
are strong winds.
 You can see how strong the winds are by the way the
trees are blowing

7.  In the monsoons the farming had to be vegetals or
fruits that grow in wet conditions
 Rice in particular needs lots of water to grow. The
seedlings are planted during the monsoon season in
flooded fields called paddy fields
 Rice is an important food for many poor
nations, becouse it’can be grown cheaply and in large
quantities.

8.  Too little rain in the monsoons season can be
disastrous, resulting in crop failure and possibly
famine.

9.  A number of serious diseases spread easily after the
monsoon season, because stagnat flood water provides
an ideal breeding ground for the bacteria that causes
them.
 Typhoid and cholera are particulary common.
 Mosquitoes, insects wich can carry diseases such as
malaria and yellow fever, also thrive in the warm, wet
conditions of monsoons regions.
