• He was raised illiterate, unable to read or write, and
remained so till his death.
• As he grew up, he became known to be truthful, honest,

one.
• Muhammad was very religious, and he had long
detested the decadence and idolatry of his society.

MUHAMMAD- Divine Revelations
By the age of 40, MUHAMMAD started to seek meditation
and peace of mind in the Mount Hira.
One day Angel Gabriel appeared before MUHAMMAD and
said ‘‘ RECITE in the name of God’’.
The beginning of the revelation of the Quran was on 18th
Ramazan, 1st year of Prophethood. It was Friday night
at cave Hira. The first 5 verses of Sura Al Alaq were
revealed. He began secret preaching. The first to accept
Islam was his wife Khatija.
The revelations continued for twenty-three years, and they
are collectively known as the Quran.

The house of Arqam Makhzoomi was made centre
of movement. About 40 people accepted Islam
during this period.

The second wave of intense opposition and
oppression was in the 5th to 7th year of
Prophethood.

MUHAMMAD- Spread of Islam
• Due to the lack of equipment and followers,
MUHAMMAD was able to influence people to accept
Islam on the basis of two things:
1. Holy Quran and its contents
2. His personality- kind and patient yet firm in His Religious
duties.
To stop MUHAMMAD, the Chiefs of other religions tried to
offer him wealth and even cut off essential supplies from
Him and His followers. However these things could not
hinder their spirit.

• By the permission of Allah, the Holy Prophet decided to
migrate from Mecca to Madina as the people of were
increasing their animosity towards him.
• Before migrating out of Mecca, he and his companion
Siddiq-e-Akbar hid in the cave of Thaur for 3 nights.
• The Holy Prophet and companions also built a mosque
together (the first mosque in islamic history) at the time
of their stay at Quba.
• When the Holy Prophet reached Medina. Everyone was
overflowing with joy and respect for him.
