6 items to evaluate when purchasing MPS software
1. 6 items to evaluate when purchasingMPS Software Tools
2. Scalability When purchasing MPS software tools you must first identify software that will be able to grow with your organization. Ideally, it will have the ability to uprade in ‘modules’ which allow you to add functionality (and cost) based on customer requirements. It should be scale to handle a large number number of devices. Look for licensing that will grow with you.
3. Deployment/Integration Next, you will want to consider how easy the tool is to deploy, if it is in the capabilities of your current tech staff and if the tool can be integrated within your overall business system and processing.
4. Functionality What specific functions does the software tool perform? It is important to recognize there are features and requirements specific to each stage of MPS. So as you review your needs, recognize the types of MPS engagements you are engaged in and be sure to evaluate your software based on the appropriate stage.
5. Architecture The architecture is the format in which these tools operate. This is of great importance to IT departments and depending upon the industry you serve (banking is very sensitive to anything going outside the ‘firewall’), this can actually be a deal maker or breaker!
6. Price Price Matters! It is important to compare prices, but this is also not the place you want to start shopping for bargains. Look beyond just the straight price comparison and evaluate the true value software delivers. Balance price against features, tech support, capabilities, reputation, ease of use and functionality. Don’t overpay, but underpaying for the wrong tool could cost you far more in the end.
7. Other Options There is an alternative to purchasing your own software. There are a number of good vendor programs which have partnered with software vendors to bundle the software tools as part of the overall MPS offering. Also, don’t forget some software tools, which perform specific functions such as Asset Management are not labeled as MPS tools.
