WHAT IS ADDICTION? Addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice that is a psychological or physical habit, to such an extent that its end causes severe trauma.

WHEN WATCHING THE NEXT VIDEO PLEASE LET US KNOW IF THE YOUNG MALE IS ADDICTED OR NOT?
What Is Addict 2.0? The term web 2.0 is referred to web applications which we use on a social basis. It works on where individuals can retrieve information as well, build their own network So an addict 2.0 is one that is abnormally tolerant to and dependant on social networks such as: Facebook MySpace Twitter
10 warning signs of Media Addiction 1.	You find yourself accessing social media sites first thing in the morning, and last thing before you go to bed at night. 2.	You become angry or agitated when unable to access your social media sites. 3.	You regularly spend time on social media sites while alone. 4.	You’ve been woken up late at night more than once, not in your bed, by the faint glow of a social media site. 5.	You check the number of "friends," "followers," or "connections" you have more than once a day.
6.	When you hear about others experimenting with new social media tools, you are unable to continue what you are doing without stopping to experience them yourself. 7.	More than once, you've had conversations with people online who are within your line of site. 8.	At family and/or business gatherings, you've hidden the fact that you're looking at a social media site from others in attendance (also know as the "under the table, handheld look-up quickie"). 9. You’ve lied or withheld information about the amount of time you spend on social media sites. 10. Your family has asked you to stop, but you can’t 10 warning signs of Media Addiction
Is Web 2.0 a Source of Happiness or Addiction? According to Elisha Goldstein PH.D a clinical Psychologist; anything can become addicting from going on the internet to reading comics. He agrees that moderation is the key and people have to have insight into what actions help and what actions hinder them. His experiment suggests that these online sites give individuals a sense of belonging and community which This is a basic piece of our well-being sometimes we get a kick out of seeing what other people are up to or even connecting with old friends So are there any downsides to this new pattern of connection?
VIDEO UP NEXT: A BRIEF VIDEO OF THE HISTORY, THE NOW, AND THE FUTURE
MEDIA ADDICTIONSIN THEPAST
Social Media In The 90’s In the 90’s the web simply delivered information to people. The world wide web was about the power of information and linking Examples would be: TV YAHOO GOOGLE MSN
Negative Effects of Social Addiction Having a social media addiction can affect a person negatively in various areas in one’s life such as in their: Social Life Personal/ Marital Relationships Physical/ Mental Health
Negative effects in Social areas The most immediate negative effects are social. An individual may withdraw from friends, love ones, and family members. They may being to avoid social gatherings, skip meetings with friends and avoid family members to be available for more surfing time. The individual withdraws completely from society as they spend more time visiting various social sites. Even when one does interact with friends they become more irritable, when they are away from the computer causing more social harm.
Negative Effects in Personal/Marital Relationships Relationships begin to wither as one becomes more addicted to social sites. Social addiction can interfere with normal and mutually satisfying relationships. For instances should one become addicted to viewing to much pornography one may become impotent, or unable to fulfill their mates sexual needs. Also one may become distorted about sexuality and expect their partners to react out their fantasies. Living on sites like Facebook and reconnecting with ex partners and in still fear and distrust in many partners, leading to various arguments. Which can ultimately lead to a fail marriages, or relationships.
Unhealthy Mind and Body An individual who spends excessive hours in front of a computer is obviously not getting adequate exercise, which then can lead to obesity. Excessive use of a mouse and keypad can lead to repetitive stress injuries. Back problems are common among people who spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer. Late night sessions also reduce the well needed 8hrs of sleep individuals need to function efficiently. Long term sleep deprivation causes drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, and depression of the immune system.
MEDIA ADDICTIONTODAY
DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that in today’s society, most people would rather play on the computer, social network, or use technology rather then go outside socialize, or exercise? 1990’s = 2010’s
DID YOU KNOW THAT Due to the reason of people’s social networking addictions, people will have a shorter life span? WHY? Not getting enough exercise, may lead to obesity. “The number of Canadians who are overweight or obese has increased dramatically over the past 25 years. Obesity is a risk factor in a number of chronic diseases. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is important to reduce the risk of those diseases and improve overall health.”
THE SOCIAL NETWORKINGPOPULARITY
Facebook is a social networking website which was launched in February 2004 Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates The website currently has more than 400 million active users worldwide
Facebook has had its share of controversy. It has been blocked intermittently in several countries including Pakistan, Syria, China, Vietnam, and Iran. It has also been banned at many places of work to discourage employees from wasting time using the online web service.
WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY “I find myself poring over my mates’ albums of them teaching in Thailand, skiing in the Alps, partying in Shoreditch, and wonder where my life went wrong, why their friends look more fun than mine, and why I’m still up at 2am on a Wednesday.” ***READ THE FULL STORY AT: http://thesq2.perpetuallybeta.com/?p=56
WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY “Roxanne Persaud my relationship was also ruined due to facebook. I hacked into his profile, read something i shouldn't have read. I questioned, we argued, blablabla. His solution to this was to changed his password, blocked me from seeing his friends list and posting on his wall. May I mind you we live together! I want to believe h.es torturing me for invading his personal space. But is it necessary for him to be so secretive?” “Abel Rodriguez My relationship also ended because of Facebook. Instead of spending quality time with each other, she would rather post pic or joke around on Facebook.” For More Stories on how facebook ruined peoples lives; Please Visit: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2239155451#!/group.php?gid=2239155451&v=wall ***READ THE FULL STORY AT: http://thesq2.perpetuallybeta.com/?p=56
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service users can send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers Twitter is the THIRD most popular social networking website.
Today the World Wide Web is about the power and of the social graph. The video up next is a short video on how these social networks work.
THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
The Future Of Social Media Social medias are scape goats from reality Sooner or later people will have been sucked into the world of these social networks This will bring the usage of certain things i.e. msn, telephones, face to face contact to a minimum It will be a new global pandemic!
Future Implications The use of Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking tools can increase the risk of cancer. The reduction of face to face, or personal contact could increase the risks of heart disease, stroke and dementia. Increased isolation could alter the way genes work and upset immune responses, hormone levels and the functions of arteries. It could also impair mental performance.
Future Implications Interacting “in person” had effects on the body, levels of hormones such as the “cuddle chemical” oxytocin, which promotes bonding and only alters whether people are in close contact or not. Which makes a difference between” real presence” and “virtual variety”. Other genes, including ones involved with the immune system and responses to stress act differently according to how much social interaction a person as with each other.
The future of our children!! Here is a video of how our future children will behave if we do not stop SOCIAL ADDICTON’S NOW!
The future of Social addictions The link below is a study conducted asking social addicts to stop using all forms of social outlets. This study gives an insight as to where the future of social addictions will be in the future. http://edmonton.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100428/students-media-100428/20100428/?hub=EdmontonHome
How Can Addiction Be Broken? Like anything else an addiction can be broken by the individual himself or herself Internet addiction may be treated in a number of ways, counseling, cognitive-behavioral therapy, group therapy make a list of alternative activities and interests that you will follow. set realistic goals in order to reduce internet use increase other social activities lastly, there are software's available that can monitor how much time one spends on the internet and limit the websites that can be visited.
