The pineal gland secretes melatonin, which is believed to coordinate circadian and diurnal rhythms throughout the body. It may also inhibit reproductive maturation until adult body size is reached. The thymus gland produces thymosin and acts as an incubator during childhood for the maturation of T lymphocytes, which play a great role in immune response. The thymus decreases in size throughout adulthood. Several glands secrete hormones that regulate processes like digestion, insulin release, pregnancy maintenance, kidney function, blood pressure, appetite, and fertility.
