2. Potty Training
Potty Training is a huge step but one worth
taking. You can save about $2000 a year on
diapers!! It is a daunting process but once you
have succeeded you and your child will be very
proud of your accomplishment.
Areas covered here are:
• Potty Training Tips
• Products to assist you
• Amazon shop
3. Potty Training Tips
Here are some tips that we hope will help you in this process:
• Is your child ready? Signs such is your child interested in
bathroom activities and can your child stay dry in diapers for a few
hours at a time?
• Reward Charts Use a reward chart with stickers to encourage
their efforts – a sticker goes a long way in praising a child.
• Planning Everyone who cares for your child - preschool, friends,
older siblings and partners all need to be aware (and onboard) that
you are potty training.
• Games, Books and DVD’s There is a huge a
selection around that will help you and your child.
• Stay the Course! Once you decide to start…do
not revert back to diapers – it send a very mixed
message to your child.
4. Potty Training Tips…(Cont.)
• Patience! Maybe easier said than done – try to remain calm.
Don't rush your child when sitting on the potty.
• Consistency If your child has an accident do not get cross with
them - it will affect their progress. Potty training cannot necessarily be
achieved overnight.
• Frequency Keep taking your child to the bathroom, every 20
minutes if necessary. Before and after every meal. Eventually they
will get the message!
• Be Creative! Perhaps a little white lie - that they are no longer
making diapers and they need to wear big girl/boy underwear from
now on.
5. Products to Assist with Potty Training
There are a large number of products available on the
market. I have hand picked these products as they offer
great value for money:
Precious Planet Potty by Fisher Price
This adorable potty is a cheery
character friend
that really engages toddlers in the
potty training process.
It features a comfortable, stable seat that's easy
to get on and off for toddlers. There's also a
handle on the back for moving it around the
bathroom or taking it along with you.
6. Reward Charts: My Big Star Chart by
Victoria Chart Company LLC.
A large wall chart (11 inches wide by 25 inches high) to hang in a central
point to monitor progress.
8 x Activity Stickers which cover the following activities:
I used my potty
I've eaten my food
I shared nicely
I've been very brave
I've spoken nicely
I picked up my toys
I've been active
and I've been good at bedtime.
8 x Blank Activity Stickers that can be customized to the individual needs
of your child.
240 Colored Smiley Face Stickers designed to help with learning colors and
counting.
84 Gold Smiley Star Achievement Stickers for when your child does
exceptionally well.
Sticky mounting pads and a dry-erase marker also included.
7. Potty (Leslie Patricelli board books)
A new toddler title charts a crucial achievement. There comes a point in a
toddler’s life when going in one’s diaper is only one possible option, and
the question must be raised: "Should I go in my potty?"
With pitch-perfect humor and pacing, Leslie Patricelli follows the inner
dialogue (sure to have little ones shouting responses) and hilarious actions
of everyone’s favorite Baby, winding up with an over-the-top look of
surprise and delight that will have both parents and offspring laughing out
loud--"I did it!"
8. There is no such thing as the "right time" - it just has to
be the right time for you and your child. The success of
Potty training hinges on the readiness of your child. it is
not age related necessarily.
Good luck!
