 Any recruiter looking at you profile may think that if
they hired you and things didn’t work out, their
company will be next in the firing line for your verbal
rants.
 Keep your opinions to yourself – even if you dislike
where you currently work! If you must vent your
opinion, keep it to the private journal under your
bed where no one can see it.

“You use bad language or
make vulgar remarks in
your status updates.”

 Being employed in a childcare setting requires the
ability to provide a good example to others and that
encompasses not swearing or using offensive
language.
 The solution? Delete any past posts which are like
this, and clean up your language moving forward!

you in appropriate photos or
videos.”

- Half or fully nude pictures
- Pictures of you throwing up from too much alcohol

 You can review the photos on your timeline and
“untag” or delete any which you deem may harm
your chances of getting the job. Think like an
employer.
 Moving forward - change your privacy settings on
Facebook so that when friends tag you in photos,
you have to approve them before they appear on
your timeline. No more nasty surprises!

“You have re tweeted or
shared something
offensive”

 Working in a childcare environment means that you
need to be respectful of diversity and other cultures,
and uphold good moral behaviour.
 Re -tweeting any jokes or comments which could
be deemed as racially offensive, demeaning to
others, or sexually explicit should be avoided.

professional and personal
accounts.”

 A professional account (like LinkedIn) can be used to
network with people in the same industry and look for
jobs. It acts as an “online CV” for potential recruiters.
 Managers sometimes look at a candidate’s LinkedIn
profile before deciding whether or not they should get
the job.
 If you want your personal life to stay private, do not link
your professional profile to your Twitter or Facebook
account.

air your dirty laundry. If you don’t have anything
good to say about the people you work with, don’t
say it all!

Facebook several times daily, it may be worth
cutting back on your habit.
 Managers want to employ well-rounded individuals
who have hobbies and interests outside of internet;

 So you may think your profile of you in a bikini
really shows you at your best? Your future employer
will not share the same opinion.

imagination will not further your career prospects in
any job (unless you want to work as a model!).
 Change your main profile picture to something
more respectable, like a headshot of you smiling.

How to stop unwanted searches
 Go to the drop down bar on your profile, choose
“Settings” > “Privacy”. Under the options given, you
can choose enhance your privacy by changing “Who
can see my stuff” and “Who can look me up”.
How to approve pictures you are tagged in
 Go to the drop down bar on your profile, choose
“Settings” > “Timeline and Tagging”. Under the
question “Review posts friends tag you in before they
appear on your timeline?”, change the setting to “On”.
