How to stay safe on Facebook!
 Facebook is a social networking service, it allows anyone from
the age of 13 upwards to chat, poke, bug their friends, remember
peoples birthdays or just simply to play games.
 Since it was launched February 2004 Facebook has become the
worlds most used social website. Today it has over 800 million
users and counting.
 Users must register before using the site, after which they may
create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and
exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they
update their profile.
What is
Facebook?
Getting on to Facebook is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
 1. Go onto your internet browser.
 2, type Facebook into the Google Tool Bar and press enter.
 3, once loaded click on the first suggestion at the top.
How to get on

How to create an
account
Creating a Facebook
Account is straight forward
and simple. Simply fill in
the required slots. At the
right bottom corner.
Just fill in your name, your
birthday, your email
address, your required
password etc.
If you already have a
Facebook account
just sign in at the top
right hand side.
Privacy Settings
Where can you find
your Privacy
Settings?
To find your privacy settings,
click the account menu button
shown above and chose
„Privacy Settings‟ This will
appear at the top of every
Facebook page once signed in.
This contains a group of general
controls for your Facebook
account.
Privacy when
sharing.
On Facebook you can
now control who can
see what your are
sharing. You can click
the “audience
selector” to chose
who views what on
your profile. The
audience selector
looks something
along the lines of this.

A new addition to Facebook
is that you can control who
sends you messages.
Controlling who can send
you messages is important
because you do not have to

Settings
Tagging
A tag links a person, page, or
place to something you post,
like a status update or a photo.
For example, you can tag a
photo to say who‟s in the
photo or post a status update
and say who you‟re with.
If you don‟t want to be tagged
in anything on your profile then
the following steps will help
you do so;
Go to the menu at the top right
hand corner > Privacy Settings
> How Tags Work > Tag
Suggestions.
Controlling who can
add as friend
You can control who can
add you on Facebook.
Reporting
Abuse
A block on Facebook prevents
specific people from viewing
your profile, meaning any
connections you had with them
will no longer be there.
Blocking people is completely
confidential and the person will
not be notified that he or she
has been blocked.
Here‟s some steps on how to block people on
Facebook;
Click the account menu at the top right of any
Facebook page and choose Privacy Settings.
Find the Block Lists section and click Manage Block
Lists.
Enter the name or email address of the person you
want to block and click Block. If you can‟t find
someone using this method, try going to the
person‟s profile and selecting Report/Block This
Person. This method is shown below.
PasswordsWhen setting up a Facebook making sure that you have a secure password is
important. Make sure that you consider the following things;
• Your password is kept to yourself and only yourself!
•Use complex passwords - Consider (upper/lower case, numbers and symbols)
• Make sure they are more than 8 characters long
•Don’t reuse the same password for all of your account uses
•Make sure to change your password often, this gives you more guarantee of
keeping safe.
Forgetting your password
If you have forgotten your Facebook
password there is one way of recovering and
getting it changed. Below the Facebook login,
you can click ‘Forgotten your password?’ You
will be redirected to a page which will ask you
to identify your account. Once you fill in all
your personal information you will be able to
send for a new password.
Application
sFacebook now allows you to play games
and apps. Apps on Facebook allow you to
play social games with your friends,
remember friends' birthdays, share your
taste in movies, send gifts to friends, and
much more.
You can now control who can
see the activity of the apps you
use. Below is some steps on
how to use the App controller;
•Click the menu in the right
hand corner.
•From the menu in the left
column, select “Apps”. From
here, you can manage settings
for each individual app you've
added.
