The PET bottles are often transported by stacking them upon each other. This might cause the bottle in
the bottom row to buckle, compress and deform. The manufacturers need to test the amount of load that
the bottles can bear when they are put under compressive forces. The Top Load Tester- Digital is the
instrument that gives an exact test result for the buckling capacity of the bottles or PET containers.
2. BOX COMPRESSION STRENGTH TESTER- DIGITAL
‘PACORR’ Compression Strength Tester for transport packages is fabricated out of rigid mild steel
sections and plates. The lower platen on which the box is kept for pressing is fixed on the frame of the
tester. The package under test is placed over this platen and pressed down from top with the help of another
platen. The upper platen is moved down by means of a screw arrangement. This platen is pivoted so that is
can tilt to align its lower face with the top of the package, if the top and bottom faces of the package are not
parallel. For conducting the edge and corner loading tests the upper platen can be held rigidly so that it does
not tilt.
The load cell used for measurement of compressive force acting on the package under test is mounted above
the upper platen. The load is indicated on a microprocessor based digital indicator. The load indicator has
peak force memory to indicate the maximum load at which the package failed, and a relay with overload
protection to stop the motor if the load exceeds the maximum capacity of the load cell.
The movement to the upper platen is given through a motor and gearbox arrangement. The distance moved
by the upper platen is indicated on a separate digital display capable of measuring the distance to the nearest
1 mm. The equipment has over-travel protection arrangement to stop the motor at extreme limits of platen
movement.

3. BURSTING STRENGTH TESTER- ANALOGUE
‘PACORR’ Bursting Strength Tester - Analogue is designed to find bursting strength of paper /
paperboard, Polyfilms etc. A test specimen is held between two annular clamps under sufficient pressure to
minimize slippage. The upper clamping surface, which is in contact with the test specimen, has a continuous
spiral groove and the lower clamping surface has a number of concentric grooves. A circular diaphragm of
pure gum rubber is clamped between the lower clamping plate and a pressure cylinder so that before the

5. GSM ROUND CUTTER
Round sample cutter for determination of GSM of any material in film form such as carpet, coated
fabrics, fabrics, felt, foam, paper or paper board, or plastic sheets is used for preparing test specimens
out of the material under test.
‘PACORR’ GSM Round Cutter cuts out circular test specimens of 100 cm² area rapidly and accurately.
Grammage or GSM of the material under test is determined by multiplying the mass of the circular
specimen obtained by 100.
The equipment consists of an aluminium body fitted with a set of four replaceable blades and also
provided with safety catch lock. The reversible blades allow the use of all the four edges of each blade.
Two special cutting pads are provided with the unit.
The sample to be cut is placed on the cutting pad on which the sample cutter is placed. After releasing
the safety catch lock, a slight pressure is exerted on the hand wheel to bring the blades into contact with
the fabric. The hand wheel is then rotated under pressure to cut out the specimens.

7. DROP TESTER
Pacorr drop tester is used for determination of effect of dropping on transport packages. This test helps
to determine the ability of the packages and packing material placed inside them for cushioning to
provide protection to its contents and to measure the ability of the container to withstand rough
handling.
In this test the package to be tested is placed on a frame having two swivable doors. The height of the
frame is adjusted to the desired value. The doors are opened suddenly, the package is dropped on to a
steel platform, and the extent of damage caused evaluated.
PACORR Drop Tester for transport packages consists of a dropping mechanism and a heavy fabricated
base plate fitted with a heavy vertical pipe for guiding the dropping mechanism.
The base is made from mild steel plate. The frame on which the base plate is mounted is heavily
reinforced with mild steel flats placed vertically below it to prevent it from getting distorted under
repeated impacts given by the falling packages. The dropping arrangement is fitted on one side of the
frame.

8. COBB SIZING TESTER
The amount of water absorbed by any paper is dependent on various characteristics such as its sizing and
porosity etc. The sizing of paper can be determined by conducting a water absorption test with the help of
a Cobb tester.
In this test the weight of water absorbed by a known area of the paper under test in a specified duration of
time is determined, from which the sizing characteristic is evaluated. However, this method is not
recommended for determination of sizing characteristic of writing paper.
Pacorr Cobb Sizing Tester consists of a ring shaped shallow brass reservoir of a specified cross sectional
area fitted on a swinging plate, a steel back up plate lined with a sheet of rubber, and a clamping bar to
clamp the backup plate on the specimen placed over the reservoir.
The swinging plate is pivoted on two bolts to enable it to be swung over for adding water to the brass
reservoir and is held over a flat metallic base. The base also has a provision for placing the test specimen
on a stainless steel lined flat surface for rolling after exposure to water.

10. ELMENDORF TEARING TESTER
The tearing strength of fabrics, papers, plastic films, or other similar materials in sheet form is determined
by measurement of work done in tearing through a fixed length of the test specimen using the Elmendorf
tear tester.
Pacorr Elmendorf Tearing Tester consists of a brass sector pendulum pivoted on low-friction ball
bearings over a vertical bracket fixed on a rigid metallic base. The test specimen, in shape of a rectangle, is
held between two clamps, one of which is mounted on the pendulum and the other is mounted on the vertical
bracket. The clamps are mounted in such a manner that their holding faces are aligned with each other when
the pendulum is locked in its raised position. The pendulum is released by lifting a release lever. This action
causes the pendulum to fall down under its weight and to tear the test specimen while doing so. The energy
absorbed during tearing is indicated on a scale fitted on the pendulum by a low friction pointer pivoted on
the axis of the pendulum.
An adjustable knife is also mounted on the pendulum support bracket. It is centered between the two clamps
and is used for making the initial slit in the test specimen.
A check weight is supplied with the tester for verification of the scale.
The apparatus is finished in shore blue metallic painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion
resistant finish.
Augmenting weights for increasing the range of the tester for testing high strength materials are available
as optional accessories. Low strength materials can be tested by mounting multiple specimens at the same
time.

12. Vibration Table
Vibration test is not only desired for products used in grueling working circumstances and being looked
on as the environmental test in the distribution routes. It is because that the effect of shock in transit
having on products is to such an extent that they deteriorate progressively and it often leads products
unusable. Needless to say, ordinary products are mostly put in far severer conditions in the distribution
routes than in their working condition.
The test method simulated the conditions occur on a package during transit and is an effective
equipment for package design and performance analysis before production and use.
