Good things Happen with PMI
When I first thought about doing my PMP certification, I had no idea that
one day I will be volunteering with PMILC, and that this participation will,
later on, lead to becoming a board member.
Managing a chapter of 300+ members is a challenging task and requires dedication.
In this community, there are many people giving from their time, making efforts and sacrificing for
the development and growth of the chapter.
On its 50th anniversary, PMI is seeking to unite all the project professionals around the world.
It is time to give back to the society.
It is time to pull together in service, contribute our collective skills and passion, and make a difference
in the world together.
Each and every one of us is invited to be involved and to be an active member in this community. To work
on advancing the project management profession worldwide, to support Lebanon Chapter and to attend
the events and monthly talks we are organizing.
Think about what motivates you, about your passion, how you can contribute and how you can make
a difference in achieving a better and more sustainable future for all.
“Life it is not just a series of calculations and a sum total of statistics, it’s about experience, it’s about
participation, it is something more complex and more interesting than what is obvious.” – Daniel Libeskind

PMI LC Participation in the Celebration of Service
In 2019, PMI celebrated their 50th Anniversary; it was the start of a project management Global Celebration
of Service that will go on throughout 2019 and beyond by supporting the United Nations’ mission to align
strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption,
and take actions that advance societal goals.
The UN has identified 17 Sustainable Development Goals that serve as a blueprint to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all.
PMI has committed to contributing 50,000 hours towards attaining these goals by 31 December 2019.
PMI has reached this goal and are now working on doubling it!
As part of the global community of PMI , Lebanon chapter members supported Bassma, a local NGO,
(bassma.org) in its involvement in UN sustainable Goal 2 “Zero Hunger” and contributed to 25 hours of
community service.
PMI LC members participated in National Beach Cleaning campaign of the Ministry of Environment
( UN sustainable goal 14 ‘Life below Water’ ) which took place on the 9th of June and covered more than
150 locations.
Around 10 resources were distributed in different locations and contributed to 60 hours of community service.
After the campaign:
All the generated litter was sorted and collected onsite by recycling companies right after the cleanup.
Waste Bins will be installed on the majority of the cleanup locations inorder to ensure sustainability
and protect the beach.

At the end of each month, new frontiers in project management will be tackled and analyzed
in our PMI Lebanon chapter meetings, to keep members up to date on the new developments
and intrigued, never to think that it is a stagnant field. As to the members, they have become
a family where each share the problems they are having and it is met with understanding and
useful advice. Also, LC does its fair share of community service by putting its expertise and
members wherever needed in Lebanon to give back to the people and set the example of true
leadership and active duty, which are paramount attributes of a project manager where he
sets the whole team for the win while he sacrifices his self-ambitions.
Not to mention the job opportunities in Project management they are always posting for
members in need to make that jump in their career or who are unemployed for the moment.
Two large events where organized this year, major key speakers in their field where invited to
give lectures, from abroad and local, just to get perspective on how project management apply
to various fields and how other cultures use it in their jobs, while learning about the latest
techniques used by them.
In short, the PMI Lebanon Chapter has delivered more than it did promise, it is always active
and moving forward, ever evolving to bring Project Management to its pinnacle and within
everyone reach.

Risk Management and the Hidden Oppurtunities
by Hani Hmedeh
It’s true that risk management and control are major defensive activities to secure our projects. But while
we are busy avoiding the lost ground, we often miss out on important opportunities to gain ground. At the
end of the day, losing opportunities is nothing more than losing chances to maximize your project success
scope, and or losing market share and accordingly losing business continuity.
