2. MODERN LOCAL HISTORY
Methodological misunderstanding
We all [think we] now what is local history...
local history is about reconstructing past communities, in ways which make
sense, rather than worrying about issues linked to postmodernism and other
theoretical constructs wchich seem to approach the wider issues in a negative
rather than constructive manner. Local history was traditionally the study of a
particular local community, or group of communities (in the sense of county)
without specific reference to the broader range of events, forces and
processes impinging on those communities.
