Company background
1. Created in 1928 as an instrument of the Government’s tourist
policy (11% GDP).
2. Its equity belongs entirely to the Spanish State.
3. Today, the Paradores chain is a reflexion of the changing priorities
over time of this tourist policy.
4. Current policy of historical heritage preservation through hotel
management dates back to the seventies.
5. Very particular asset structure: buildings are the property of the
Spanish State and managed by Paradores, as a concession.

1. Profitability issues: after huge profits, losses in the 2009:2012 period.
2. Financial problems: debt of 110 MM€ due to overinvestment.
3. Brand arquitecture: product dispersal.
4. Excessive workforce (4239 in 2012) and low productivity.
Currently we have three main lines of strategic action:
1. Financial restructuring.
2. New marketing approach to increase income.
3. Franchise feasibility: source of income and growth.
