1. “How Do You Envision the City of
the Future?”
Top 10 Characteristics of
Tomorrow’s City
2. Preface
In the following slides you’ll follow along my thinking of what the city of tomorrow will resemble.
I am either in or have taken these pictures myself during my trips around the world. I am very passionate
about international experience, so I also wanted to demonstrate this as part of my submission!
3. 1. History
Cairo, Egypt (March 2013)
An ancient wonder of mankind; the city of the future will let us learn
from successes and failures – after all, history tends to repeat itself
4. 2. Innovation
Dubai, UAE (May 2013)
The world’s largest building, a symbol of rising to the limits; high-tech,
digital, and adapting to change will be key characteristics of tomorrow’s city
5. 3. Green
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 2014)
A view over Rio, where somewhere below is a football field whose lights
are powered by the energy generated from players’ footsteps; who’s to
say that tomorrow’s city sidewalks won’t be powered in a similar way?
6. 4. Clean
Fushë-Krujë, Albania (June 2013)
A popular yet pristine location in the Albanian countryside; pollution
reduction, waste management, renewable energy, and eco-friendly
policies will preserve our planet
7. 5. Security
London, England (July 2012)
Military patrolling the skies during the London Olympics; police
enforcement will shift toward prevention where robots may even lead
the way
8. 6. Connectivity
Phnom Penh, Cambodia (April 2013)
An example of connectivity in SE Asia that desperately needs an upgrade;
global exchange of information will be instant and widely accessible
9. 7. Health
Tokyo, Japan (March 2013)
Japan has some of the world’s healthiest menus; the city of tomorrow
will not sacrifice food quality for quantity and will see huge advances in
health care
10. 8. Transport
Jakarta, Indonesia (May 2013)
Just a minor traffic jam in the world’s 3rd-most populous country; safe,
efficient mass transport will move millions over vast distances in very
short amounts of time, making traffic problems a thing of the past
11. 9. Education
Serengeti, Tanzania (February 2013)
An elementary school classroom in rural East Africa; strong educational
links to the world will create a conduit of skilled labor
12. 10. Diversity
Johannesburg, South Africa (June 2010)
2010 FIFA World Cup, an amazing multi-cultural event where I met people
from 6 continents; cultural diversity from open borders will make for new
ideas and collective progress
13. 11 (Bonus). Fun!
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (February 2013)
It will also be at least a little fun; otherwise, would you want to live
there?!
