3. Myth 1—LEDs Don’t Use Any Power
OPPLE checked:
Generally speaking, it can be said that LEDs are about 15
percent more efficient than fluorescent lights, and six times
as efficient
as incandescent. This is also constantly and quickly
improving.
It is expected that within the next five to seven years, we will
approach 200 lumens per watt which will represent a
fantastic advantage over fluorescent lights.
It is also worth mentioning though, that LED efficiency does
require a full LED lighting system efficacy. This includes
power conversion circuitry efficiencies, optical efficiencies
and more.

4. Myth 2—LEDs Can Only Produce Blue Light

100% old news. White-light LEOs can produce very nice
color temperatures ranging from 2,700K to 6,500K with
color rendering index (CRI) numbers of 90+.
There has been a huge improvement regarding LEDs light
output and color in the past few years. By buying LED bulbs
from top-quality suppliers, you can definitely get a full range
of spectrographic data.

5. Myth 3—LEDs Are Not Bright Enough
OPPLE checked:
The main reason why you may have heard this is because of
an inaccurate comparison. It can seem that LED fixtures
deliver less light than conventional bulbs. However this is
simply not taking into account the significant wasted light
amount that is generated by conventional lighting solutions.
Long story short, raw lumen output is an over-simplistic and
incomplete measure of the suitability of a lighting fixture for
a given task. How to measure this more accurately?
To better compare LED to conventional lighting one should
rather look at the delivered light, measuring the luminous
flux at the areas that are supposed to be illuminated. This
comparison can be done by evaluating the photometric data
of the respective lamps or luminaries.

6. Myth 3—LEDs Are Not Bright Enough
Generally, a lot of the raw lumen output of conventional
lighting is lost in the housing, as the light is emitted in all
directions, whereas LED chips emit their light in the intended
directions.
The use of lenses, shades and filters, can further influence
the strength and characteristics of the delivered light.
Therefore, in overall performance LED lighting usually
performs just as well if not much better than incandescent or
fluorescent lighting. At the same time LED lighting is using
much less electricity to reach that level of performance.

7. Myth 4—LEDs Generate No Heat
OPPLE checked:
This is not false in the sense that LEDs don’t produce
infrared emission. Yet, in the process of converting electricity
to light, waste heat is produced. Via special heat sinks the
lighting fixture channels the heat away. This protects the
LED chip and other sensitive components from overheating
and ensuring constant performance and longer lifetime.
