Presentation at the “Open Science: connecting the actors” event on the 21st of November 2022:
Share best practices, foster community, and encourage knowledge-sharing on Open Science.
At the heart of the Open Access Belgium community is the ambition to open up the way we organize and conduct scientific research.
The Open Science teams of the Belgian universities have developed and tested a wide range of training methods, training materials, networking activities
and data solutions to facilitate and foster Open Science. Achievements, tools and lessons learned by different institutions will be shared in this networking event.

17. Lessons learned
• Right decision to go for Dataverse open source software
• Intensive stakeholder consultation, from legal advisors to
researchers
• Data publication not yet embedded in research practices
Continuous investment in the infrastructure, stakeholder
consultation, and awareness creation and training of researchers
remains needed
17
18. Work ahead
• Increase awareness of RDR and data publication with KU Leuven
researchers
• Simplify/automate data upload
• Integrations with active data systems (e.g. iRods, GitLab, OSF, RedCap etc.)
• Prepare for CoreTrustSeal certification
• Implement long-term preservation curation and workflow

A dataset = combination of data, code, metadata and documentation. A dataset can contain one or more files.
Launched in January 2022
Lirias Limo & FRIS
OAI-PMH harvesting for OpenAire
Crawled automatically by Google Dataset Search
Findability & increased visibility or KU Leuven research & research outputs
Upload files + README file
And updated whenever creator wants with versioning, though will always pass through review phase again.
DOI: part of metadata
Metadata: openly available & machine-readable
File structuring possible for file findability
Open (with access information on dataset & file level)
Documentation: README is mandatory
