This document outlines an assignment to research various areas of the brain and cognition, including learning styles, memory techniques, dreams, telepathy, and the brain itself. Students will research one topic in small groups, summarizing key findings and conclusions in individual reports. They will then present their combined results to the class, discussing what was learned about each topic and recommendations for further research.

A lot of research is currently being done into many aspects of our brains, both physically
and how we use them. What do you know about each of the areas mentioned above?
How important is it to find out more about each of these areas? Which area would you
find most interesting to research? What kind of things would you like to find out?
The Research
First, decide what questions you want to answer with your research. eg How can I find
out what my learning style is? What can I do to learn more in this way? What do dreams
about x, y and z mean? Are there any cases where telepathy has been proven to work?
Each person in the group should be responsible for a different question.
You will now have a short time to research your area together. At the end of this time
you will have to report on what you have found out – or not. You will also need to draw
conclusions and add your own ideas so discuss your findings with your colleagues as you
go.

The Report
Each member of the group should write a report on the particular question they have
been researching.
If you have found very little, or nothing, say so. Say what areas were mentioned more
often and speculate on why there isn’t much information on your particular area.
If you have found lots of info, summarise the key points, being careful to point out any
contradictions you have found.
You may include your own opinion and say why you think this.
You should end your report with recommendations for either how your readers can make
use of your findings, or for what further studies need to be carried out.
Presenting Your Findings
Show your report to your colleagues and together plan how you will present all your
findings to the class. As well as talking through all, or parts of, your reports, you may
want to get them to try short experiments. For example, to see if they can memorise a
list of words easily, or to find out what their preferred learning styles are.
