Fahari is a professional web design company that provides website design, development, and hosting services. As an intern at Fahari, the author configured Linux servers, installed applications like Apache and MySQL, and set up email, file sharing, and database services. This allowed Fahari to offer web hosting. The author also designed Fahari's website using Drupal, adding functionality like user registration and blogs. Through this experience, the author gained valuable skills in Linux administration, web design, and server-side programming.

Overview of Fahari
Fahari is a professional web design company located in Espoo, Finland that
supplies services of website design and development and web hosting.
The employer's values are trust, commitment, and sustained profitability. The
market target of Fahari is all enterprises, associations, foundations and
educational institutes which are interested in developing websites.
Tasks
As a Linux administrator, I installed and configured Linux operating system and
different servers such as web server, mail server, bind name server, file server,
FTP server, Database server, and others. I added users and configured their
privileges and groups. I used samba sever to create a small network for 1
employee to access the server through a windows based work station but the
implementation of the server is sufficient for larger network. I used both graphical
and command line interface for the configuration tasks. I built a Linux system for
the company for building websites and hosting and for the company's network.
The staff in the company will have their email addresses as
user@fahari02.enterprises.evtek.fi and have the ability to access their mailbox
using a normal browser. For achieving this mail system, I configured an IMP
server and created users for it and installed an open source mail system (Horde)
and configured it. The mail system is working after the necessary configuration
and can be accessed through the company's website. The users will be able to
create their individual homepages as fahari02.enterprises.evtek.fi/~user. I
configured apache server to handle this process. Users can transfer files to their
public_html folder and their own space folder through any FTP client program or
directly from the work stations through a driver created for each user in the
network. As a hosting company Fahari will be able to provide a space on the
server based on apache server, mysql and php. I installed phpMyAdmin as a
graphical user interface to the mysql server to ease the process for the users.
As a web designer I created Fahari website using an open source cms (Content
Management System). I had to study different cms programs by studying their

features. I chose Drupal because of its richness of functionalities in the core of
the program and the available free modules on the net, its simplicity, security,
and well structured design and hierarchy by using a good programming approach
based on abstraction and modularity.
I designed and implemented the logo of the company and a banner for the
website. I completed the website which has different functionalities:
• Users can register to the website. After registration, the user will get an
email to verify his account.
• Some services are available only for registered users such as: forms,
blogs, email service system ... etc.
I used the existing CSS files to configure the site and modify the contents. I made
some modifications for the CSS files and added some new lines.
Self evaluation
I got to know the field in the real working environment. I also widened my
knowledge and experience during the training period. By working in a small
starting company I got the chance to do too many tasks related to the field of the
company’s services. In big companies in the same field one can get very limited
tasks. When the number of website to be build is higher, each employee will
have to do very limited tasks in each site for instance.
As a Linux administrator I got the chance to learn many things related to the field
specially the troubleshooting part which was challenging in many cases. The
most interesting part for me is the chance to design and implement a complete
system for any enterprise or school system which was not possible to gain if I
had worked for big companies.
As web designer I enhanced my knowledge an experience in the field. I got more
in depth into database systems using mysql and also more practice and
understanding of php language and thus have a general idea of similar
technologies for server side programming. By designing the logo and banner I
got experience and knowledge of image editing using the existing software. I
used Linux software but it gives an idea of image editing using other programs

such as adobe Photoshop. Generally I got very valuable knowledge and practice
during those weeks which I spent with such a small company.
The work was mostly independent and few times as a team of two.
I have realized that my studying strategy was good during my studies in EVTEK.
My strategy was to pay much attention to the basic and compulsory professional
courses and go through the advanced courses faster. While troubleshooting or
making modifications or configuration, I realized that my basic knowledge such
as html code, CSS technology, UNIX, word processing has helped me a lot to
overcome the problems by isolating the unlikely problems and defining the
possible solutions.
Web hosting and design has a good future specially in developing countries
where most of the educational institutes and enterprises and associations didn't
yet built their websites and where the competition chance for new and small
enterprises is still existing.
