2. Overview
 Obesity is a growing problem in the state of New York
as well as the whole nation.
 With obesity in the rise there is also a rise seen in
diabetes and heart related diseases.
 Obesity is a growing epidemic that has already affected
a large percentage of the population.

Deals with the amount of body
fat one possess oppose to being
overweight which mainly deals
with the weight of ones overall
body mass.

4.  When broken down by county the percentages of obese adults ranges from 16.1
% to 29.9%
The top three lowest percentages include New York County Westchester County
and Nassau County
The top three highest percentages for obesity are Seneca County, St. Lawrence
County, and Chautauqua county.

6. Why are there differences in obesity percentages
amongst counties?
• When viewing the table on the previous slide there is a clear
correlation between yearly salaries and obesity percentages?
What do dollars have to do with it?
• The more money someone makes, they are more likely to
focus on their health.
• Money allows one to buy the finest healthy foods and also
allows them to afford gym memberships.
• People who pull in a high income are more likely to have free
time for recreation.

8. Summary
 Obesity is a problem across the entire state of New
York. It is clear that the poorer counties have higher
obesity rates because of limited means to acquire
healthy foods and recreational outlets. This is growing
issue that people should be aware of.
